  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Weird/Good Night

"Weird/Good Night" is a weird/good play in all the best ways. In the dialogue, Emily Borst captures the awkwardness of highschoolers, as well as the mix of exhilaration and anxiety surrounding queer questioning. And there are great opportunities here for female and non-binary actors. This is an adorable play and it would be beautiful to see staged.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: A Fragile Mind - Divergence

Hunger Games who? A Fragile Mind is a far superior dystopian story. This new installment, Divergence, has me floored. So many twists and turns were packed into this short piece. Secrets have been uncovered and my mind has been teased with all the potential versions of the truth. Tables have turned as allegiances have shown their true(?) colors. The addition of Doug and his super powers has added a whole new flavor to this deliciously complex plot. Not only is this play entertaining, but the whole cast of characters are an actor's dream. Props to Joe Swenson!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: A Fragile Mind - Senses

    Screaming.
Joe Swenson has once again left me at a loss for words. I freaking love this series and I need more!
Pre-crime Jenny is a side of Tammy's character that we haven't really seen yet, and she's so interesting. And, the details revealed in this installment of the series leave me wondering if Tammy/Jenny even committed a crime in the first place. I am this close to making a conspiracy board. Not to mention, amnesia episodes are so intriguing to me, so this play was a treat to read.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: A Fragile Mind - Collateral Contributions

Like all of the shows in the A Fragile Mind series, "Collateral Contributions" kept me in constant, lingering suspense. Something about a reality TV show as a vehicle for dystopian storylines strikes me as brilliant. There is an underlying tension that constantly ramps up as more and more is revealed about the world of the series and the people in it, a feeling that tells me all is not what it appears to be. While this piece is surreal and juicy on it's own, fans of the series will eat up the newly revealed details of the Rejuvenation Center's history.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Euripides, You Buy-a Dese

    "How charming... Father jokes."
This play is so silly-goofy! Full of wordplay, historical jokes, and headed by a Danny Devito-esque lead; "Euripides, You Buy-a Dese" is a fun little play by John Busser. And with a title like that, how could you not want to read it?!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: A Fragile Mind - Brian

New scene to one of my favorite series just dropped...the way I had to read this immediately...
    My first reaction is... WHAT?!
Oh how the plot has thickened. I have been left in suspense. Joe Swenson has consistently amped up the action with this series, leaving me at the edge of my seat each and every time. Please, y'all read this play and this whole Fragile Mind series for that matter. It deserves to be a dystopian classic, and it is in my mind. I'll be excitedly awaiting the next chapter in Tammy's story.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: A Lot A Lot (one-minute play)

A piece with so much room for actors to play with subtext, "A Lot A Lot" is an adorable glimpse of love.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: ACCIDENTALLY UNLIKE A MONSTER

Bizarre in all the best ways, "Accidentally Unlike a Monster" takes us to an almost dreamlike state. This piece is trippy yet deep and feeling. Well done!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: The Trash Heap Does Not Exist

I cannot stop laughing. "The Trash Heap Does Not Exist" is an absurd, fast-paced comedy that will delight all audiences. What starts out as a normal exchange between roommates soon becomes an existential conspiracy. I love the sentient trash and the twists and turns. Not to mention, the comedic timing is perfect. Drew Petriello has created a very well-written piece that would be so much fun to perform and a trip to watch.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Hesperides: Guardians of the Golden Apples

A female commentary on Greek mythology? We love to see it. In this play by Emily McClain, we get to see the aftermath of the myth of Atlanta from the perspective of the guardians of the golden apple grove and Atlanta herself. Not only would this play be beautiful to see onstage, but it provides amazing roles for women. What a rich, story of female agency against a phallocentric world. The end of this play packs a real punch as we are left with longing and words unsaid. Brilliant play!
