I did a reading of this play with some fellow actors during the pandemic, and we all loved it. I am such sucker for dystopian stories, and this one sets the atmosphere so vividly that you can feel the dirt and dryness in the air. There's an edge of fanaticism that lingers on the periphery that creates an impending sense of danger, while Lauren and Ingrid ground us in a beautiful sense of truth. It's just so well-written and imagined, with tons of room for creative interpretation and staging. It feels like a saga, biblical in scope and possibility.

I somehow stumbled upon this play several years back while looking for pieces with strong female characters. I love the beautiful poetry of this play, the musicality of the words, the dreamlike atmosphere, and the dynamic possibilities of staging that it presents. It's a ritual and a prayer, an ode and an homage to, and for, the dead and survivors alike. The female roles are incredibly written and it's definitely on my bucket list as an actor.
