What a riot! Having just enjoyed a reading of I DON’T KNOW by Tiny Theatre, I laughed all over again as I read it myself. Political correctness meets the generally vulgar cadence chants army drill sergeants are known for. I do know and you’ve been told, James McLindon’s play is comic gold!

For playwrights, this story of artistic control is universal. And for Jews, being told we control the narrative or anything else is a never ending struggle. With great humor, including a brilliantly named Artistic Director, John Minigan brings these two thoughts together for quite an emotional impact. This play is truly deserving of acclaim it has received.

A memory long hidden, most likely for “the good of all concerned,” comes rushing back during a visit to a familiar place. Characters in the play are overwhelmed by the revelation and no doubt audiences will be as well. Scott Sickles has created an almost dreamlike scene with engaging characters that draw us into the retelling of a beautiful romance only to force us to wake up to a disturbing reality. Every role is a gem. Hopefully more productions are in store.

This is my first encounter with Michele A. Miller’s work, making me want to learn more about what writing in the style of Michele A. Miller is all about.

A son/daughter-in-law and father/mother-in-law with some nasty business dealings. How can they resolve conflicts with so many shared secrets? That is the crux of this tense two-hander. And the result is perfect! Nicely done!

Two characters so completely different in their appearance and the way they speak, but each dealing with their own trauma. DC Cathro brings these two together in an unusual setting as Marrk prepares to offer his unique tattoo service to Christy. In the course of the play, each character’s “damage” is exposed. But can they simply be covered over with ink? It’s the stuff beneath the surface that makes these characters and this play so extraordinary. Tragic, heroic, and beautifully told. So many stories of individuals or small groups fighting Nazi atrocities that remain largely unknown. Thank you, John Mabey, for shedding light on these particular brave souls with your unique and intelligent writing.
