  • Darrin Friedman: Last Laugh

This is a remarkable piece of work. Funny, heartfelt, and authentic, "Last Laugh" is a piece worth reading and seeing. I am blown away by Norkin's care for these two characters and his ability to create real dramatic tension through comedy. It's inventive and well-woven into a solid play and I would pay money to see it. Truly excellent work!

  • Morey Norkin is a storyteller. Long-form or short, he specializes in transforming our surroundings and putting us in the middle of a scene with depth and expertise. This is a charming piece. It represents a time when I could imagine my own grandparents in their small apartment, engaged in this kind of heartfelt moment. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but this is just so lovely. Well done!

  • Darrin Friedman: How It Turned Out

This impressive and immersive piece catapults the reader into a different time and place. Brava! To deal with delicate subjects while not beating us over the head is not easy to do, but Josephs seems to not only find the right tone but compelling dialogue. This is a strong effort and worth the read.

  • Darrin Friedman: Playing G.O.D. - 10 Minute Play

What a charming play. Funny, well-paced, and well-defined characters make this play a must-read for those who want a laugh. I laughed out loud in a couple of places! I'm thrilled for Alexa and look forward to reading more of her work. Outstanding effort.

  • Darrin Friedman: Splitting the Check (Ten Minute)

What I love about this play is its build-up. I wasn't sure where it was going, but I loved it when it reached its climax. The timing and pacing make this charming play a must-read, and I would love to see this staged. With the right actors, it could be truly lovely.

  • Darrin Friedman: A Tree Grows in Longmont

I am in awe of playwrights who can draw from vulnerability in loving honesty. This play is special. It shows us that grief, memory, and forgiveness's power exist beyond the page. This play also gutted me. The tenderness of the moment is palpable. This play exemplifies some of the best I've read on NPX. Philip shows mastery of his craft in a way that truly honors love in all forms. Bravo, sir! This play is simply outstanding and I hope I can have the pleasure of seeing on stage one day.

  • Darrin Friedman: Refracted Light

I’m speechless. Undone. You see I’m bipolar, and reading a play about people suffering from the same can be treacherous ground. But not here. Hall is an undeniable talent. She is a powerhouse. Evidence? What she has created is not only an authentic representation of people who suffer from this disorder but show how the people around us, even those well-intentioned, can get it all wrong. I’m so grateful to Dana for writing this honest portrayal of living life with bipolar disorder. Her remarkable examination is a testament to her skill and she is to be lauded.

  • Darrin Friedman: No More Flowers

This is a remarkable play. I am floored. It is sublime. In just a few pages Hall develops an intricate back and forth between O'Keeffee and Freud that is as vivid as paintings themselves. The dialogue is smart and fully layered. She doesn't hold back on the ridiculousness of Freud's mansplaining repulsiveness or the deception that we have all somehow been had by this man's life work as it applies to people and perspectives he could not possibly understand. I mean, sometimes a flower is just a flower. Anyway, it's brilliant. It's decisive. It's excellent. Highly recommend!

  • Darrin Friedman: Any Second Now

It takes remarkable talent to tell a story that is not only compelling, but quick witted. This is a smart play, and like so many pieces by Philip Middleton Williams, he proves again why he is the king of this kind of work. This play, like so many of his others, prove that knowing the big stuff can be relevant and even brilliantly applied today if one only tries. I mean come on, you had me at Fred and Ethel! It’s a wonderful piece and I want more!

  • Darrin Friedman: How About Them Dodgers

I would like to start by saying I have always enjoyed Philip's work. I feel like I say that all the time, but it's true. Regarding this play, I found it wonderful. Great on all fronts. It would have been funny if it weren't so horrifyingly accurate. It's quick, clever, and cuts right to the point. If you want an example of why Philip is so respected (and talented), then this play is evidence of why.
