  • Darrin Friedman: A Tree Grows in Longmont

I am in awe of playwrights who can draw from vulnerability in loving honesty. This play is special. It shows us that grief, memory, and forgiveness's power exist beyond the page. This play also gutted me. The tenderness of the moment is palpable. This play exemplifies some of the best I've read on NPX. Philip shows mastery of his craft in a way that truly honors love in all forms. Bravo, sir! This play is simply outstanding and I hope I can have the pleasure of seeing on stage one day.

  • Darrin Friedman: Refracted Light

I’m speechless. Undone. You see I’m bipolar, and reading a play about people suffering from the same can be treacherous ground. But not here. Hall is an undeniable talent. She is a powerhouse. Evidence? What she has created is not only an authentic representation of people who suffer from this disorder but show how the people around us, even those well-intentioned, can get it all wrong. I’m so grateful to Dana for writing this honest portrayal of living life with bipolar disorder. Her remarkable examination is a testament to her skill and she is to be lauded.

  • Darrin Friedman: No More Flowers

This is a remarkable play. I am floored. It is sublime. In just a few pages Hall develops an intricate back and forth between O'Keeffee and Freud that is as vivid as paintings themselves. The dialogue is smart and fully layered. She doesn't hold back on the ridiculousness of Freud's mansplaining repulsiveness or the deception that we have all somehow been had by this man's life work as it applies to people and perspectives he could not possibly understand. I mean, sometimes a flower is just a flower. Anyway, it's brilliant. It's decisive. It's excellent. Highly recommend!

  • Darrin Friedman: Any Second Now

It takes remarkable talent to tell a story that is not only compelling, but quick witted. This is a smart play, and like so many pieces by Philip Middleton Williams, he proves again why he is the king of this kind of work. This play, like so many of his others, prove that knowing the big stuff can be relevant and even brilliantly applied today if one only tries. I mean come on, you had me at Fred and Ethel! It’s a wonderful piece and I want more!

  • Darrin Friedman: How About Them Dodgers

I would like to start by saying I have always enjoyed Philip's work. I feel like I say that all the time, but it's true. Regarding this play, I found it wonderful. Great on all fronts. It would have been funny if it weren't so horrifyingly accurate. It's quick, clever, and cuts right to the point. If you want an example of why Philip is so respected (and talented), then this play is evidence of why.

  • Darrin Friedman: The Curious Tale of Marston Moore's Untimely Demise

If you want to put a smile on your face then I highly recommend you read this short play. It’s charming and wonderful and I’m so glad I found this. I have read more of Christopher’s work, and as in the other cases, he proves to have complete command of his character’s paths and he does so while charming his way on to the end. I loved this piece. Bravo.

  • Darrin Friedman: Family Visitation (Ten Minute)

I just finished this and I’m heartbroken. Absolutely gutted by this piece. Paul, you have created an entire story with such depth in such a small period of time that it is a wonder. Marvelous writing.

  • Darrin Friedman: The Fist of Branding

Omg, this is brilliant. I just laughed so hard my wife told me to shut up. Hilarious. Great stuff. You have mad skills!

  • Darrin Friedman: The Big Sneeze (or Much Achoo About Nothing)

Morey's writing and craft are wonderful in this play. It's funny, smart, and charming. Quick lesson learned: I will never hold in a sneeze for the rest of my life! If you are looking for a charming one-act, this is your ticket. Great read, and I would love to see this performed.

  • Darrin Friedman: Cabana Boy

Cabana Boy is a perfect example of what a truly talented writer can do when they use their skills to develop a story and characters we grow to care about. It’s funny where it needs to be funny and dramatic when it needs to show that side of the coin. This is an authentic look at storytelling and characters, and I am thrilled to recommend this piece. And I am glad to have read it. It is just a wonderful play. I would love to see this performed. Excellent work!
