Good craic here with Fenton's deft handling of family dynamics and greater issues that shape them. Funny and touching in just the right places. A surprisingly good combination of elements, perhaps much like the mythical beast the characters hunt.

Oh, I loved this. This would be such a great piece of a horror holiday anthology in any form. It's funny and horrifying at the same time. Good stuff indeed, Gibbs. And now if you'll excuse me... NEED MORE NOG.

  • Brent Alles: The Believers Market

Man oh man, was this satirically brilliant. (Brought some of the works of Shirley Jackson to my mind.) You think you know what you're getting, and then Bluestein-Lyons takes you on an incredibly sharp turn... and you just kind of go with the rest of the piece with your mouth open. This fit my darkly comedic sensibilities very well, however, and the right kind of audience is definitely going to dig the dark wit here. I know I certainly did.

A good Avery Schreiber reference? I'm not made of stone, PMW. Anyway, this was a very funny modern day vaudeville routine that had me laughing throughout. So much brilliant back and forth wordplay that should have audiences chortling. I'm not sure what Jerry would make of that last word, but I'm sure PMW would make it hilarious. Just like the rest of this piece. This is going to be great when it's staged!

Wonderful little present by Cole. (Definitely made the most of her title gift!) I'd put it up there with the best of holiday favorites. Unexpected message that just totally fits and elevates the work from a charming character piece to a great message for these particular holiday times. This would make an excellent children's book or animated special. But primarily, it's a great short play, and audiences of all ages are going to have a lot of fun when they see it. Ho ho ho! Cough. (Sorry, Ash.)

  • Brent Alles: Snakes On A Plane, On A Boat, On The Sea

There's a dark rhythm to this piece that's almost tantalizing. Maybe the wrong word choice, considering what's really going on; but indeed, you get the hypnotizing low rumble of the road. With the lights slowly but surely building in the distance. Perhaps. Leaves a lot of space for quiet contemplation and mysteries revealed... both which happen here in purposeful form. A dark but perhaps necessary exploration of humanity on an eventful Christmas Eve. Masterful work here, to be sure.

  • Brent Alles: RED PEN, GREEN INK

An authentic portrayal of children of this age and some nifty lessons to learn in at as well that are subtle, which is appreciated. This would definitely be a fun play to have children perform, and audiences would enjoy it and also come away with some enrichment as well. Pretty great for a brief play, but Cross achieves that very well here.

What a lovely piece of humanity to read on a day before the holidays. Thanks, Julie, for giving a little bit of hope to counteract the hopelessness. An excellent short play.

This was... unexpected. And thrilling at the same time. It definitely makes you think in terms of our usual definition of "monsters." Not every vampire story makes me think. This one does, and it's incredibly effective for that reason. Excellent, chilling, and subversive horror.

Loved this! What a clever reversal on the possession genre/trope. Laughed out loud several times, but no surprise there with a Busser piece. Can't wait to see this staged at some point!
