You know when it never occurred to you to personify your chest dysphoria as 2 aging vaudevillians who (don’t) work for you in an office setting but then you read a 10 minute play about it & you can’t imagine how you ever thought of it any other way? That’s this piece. Very funny, a lot of physical comedy to play with…but also a very sincere window into a nonbinary experience.

As a kid who grew up sleeping in pub booths on dad's gig nights, I've overheard versions of these guys my whole life. It would be easy to draw a more hyperbolic, over-the-top portrait of them -- but Richter exercises great restraint & digs into a quieter moment of aimless tipsy longing. What does it mean to want something you've only let yourself experience at a distance? Why do we do that? What could happen if we choose to draw closer? Worthwhile questions the audience will ask themselves after sitting with this piece.

Naively, I did not go into this expecting Penelope to read me to filth like this, but 5 pages later, look where we are. A funny, smart micro-meta-play that might actually convince some of us playwrights to change our ways.

This is such an interesting little slice of unlife to imagine backwards what cj’s life might have been like, while it lasted. Would be a great monologue for students.

This play really brings home that even in a scenario where being the first lesbians on Mars is on the table, the fundamental things apply. A bittersweet snapshot of a very real-seeming moment with sci fi stakes pulled down to earth.

This play does one of my very favourite things a play can do, I think better than any other medium, which is show how a family meets a transformative moment together at different life stages, with the ordinary woven through the hugeness.

This play does so much in a few minutes, shows so much through the eyes & mind of one character. A great dynamic role for a trans actress, so much to work with. The audience will be thinking about Sophie long after the play is done & imagining a third path for her.

This is a really beautiful short play that brings ancient tradition face to face with a modern experience of grief. In under 10 minutes, we go from watching Sarah receive a scolding for not knowing the religious laws around guarding her Bubbi's body, to grappling head-on with Jewish folklore & the ethical implications of raising the dead.

A nice funny short piece depicting the exact moment in a new relationship when two people realise they can't actually read each other's minds & they start saying what they really mean.

So much for two actors to dig into together. The audio version on CBC’s PlayME podcast is excellent if you want to hear exactly that.
