  • Marianas Trench (Part One of The Second World Trilogy)
    10 Aug. 2020
I watched a Zoom reading of MARIANAS TRENCH and was so captivated I immediately found the rest of the trilogy on here on NPX and am immersed in the rest of the story. Scott Sickle imagines an alternate history of present events, but from the point of view of two 11-year-old boys who share the move beautiful bond. Tensions are high, and the world is falling apart, but the daily struggle of being if 5th grade is equally as heart wrenching. BRAVO! So magnificently done! I encourage everyone to check out this play! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
  • The Get-Together
    9 Aug. 2020
AMAZING! THE GET-TOGETHER is a horror play through and through! Daniel Prillaman creates a visceral, sonorous, and totally unsettling world of a party that doesn't feel like a party. Something is horribly wrong, and the details we are given in this play only lead to more questions. The off stage action adds to the on stage terror. This play needs to be staged! Highly Recommend!
  • Trivial [a monologue]
    9 Aug. 2020
Well, I certainly didn't expect to be tearing up before I've even had my breakfast, but here we are. TRIVIAL is a play about facts, but those facts only serve to highlight the emotional connection of the piece. Steven G. Martin is a Master at distilling a feeling down to it's purest form and filling his audience with it. This is a beautiful example of that. This is Monologue about loss and love, and Morse Code. Highly Recommended!
  • Glint
    7 Aug. 2020
GLINT is a treat! So treat yourself, and read this play! Or better yet Produce this play! it has so many wonderful production elements to explore costume, choreography, possibly sound design! Scott Sickles uses demonic possession to playfully address the very real issues surrounding consent. SO WELL DONE! Charming and surprising! Highly Recommended!
  • Robota (short play)
    31 Jul. 2020
ROBOTA is a chilling short play about consumption and what we lose when we look only at the bottom line. David Hansen creates a scene vastly open to interpretation, and all the possibilities are disturbing. Highly Recommended!
  • Deer (short play)
    27 Jul. 2020
I chuckle to myself as I read this short play over breakfast while looking out my kitchen window at the deer grazing on my lawn. DEER depicts a much less serene relationship with the local wildlife. These gardeners are mad! So mad! And their anger is our amusement. David Hansen gives us extremely human reactions to very a natural turn of events! Do yourself a favor this morning and check out this play!
  • That Kind of Boy [a 1-minute play]
    15 Jul. 2020
THAT KIND OF BOY upends expectations and leaves you with a great big grin on your face! Steven G. Martin creates a tense moment of anxiety and then melts it into a tender family moment in this 11-minute play! Adorable! Sweet! Touching!
  • The Eighth Corpse
    15 Jul. 2020
THE EIGHTH CORPSE is a wonderful riff on the classic living room drama. The matter of fact way that Dante and Shelby discuss the corpse that has appeared in their bedroom would have you think this was just another weeknight in their home, and from the sounds of things, at this point, it may very well be. Ryan M. Bultrowicz has created a delightfully absurd scenario that will have you screaming for more!
  • Not Really (Little Star)
    15 Jul. 2020
There is so much heart in this 10-minute monologue that it is bursting at the seams and overflowing the boundaries of the play. NOT REALLY (LITTLE STAR) is a gorgeously written piece about a man struggling to come to terms with a miscarriage. Toby Malone creates an outpouring of emotion that is raw, and he bears it open for the whole world to see. Immensely Powerful!
  • Savory Taṇhā (sixteen short plays performed by a rotating ensemble)
    13 Jul. 2020
SAVORY TANHA is a curated selection of David Hansen's short plays. The addition of a narrator creates context and additional meaning between each piece. Designed for performance in a virtual space, this piece plays with the intimacy of a person speaking directly into a camera in real time. This is a play about the range of human relationships, loss, longing, love, dissatisfaction, disinterest, disappointment, and all the feelings in between. I had the pleasure to see this performed on Zoom with David Hansen narrating, and it was a magical night of theatre. The perfect play to perform while social distancing!
