  • Monica Cross: One Fall Over and the Whole Thing Go

This is such a fun play! I had the privilege of directing this piece for the 4x6 festival in Tampa, Fl. This play is witty, and Matt Cowley has an amazing command of language. This fast paced heist gone to hell presents delightful twists and turns! You can't be sure where this is going until the very end.

  • Monica Cross: My Barking Dog

This play is amazing! This minimalistic two-hander is go imaginative. It takes you on wild ride. I saw it at the Urbanite in 2016, and was completely captivated by the script. Check this play out!

  • Monica Cross: Shakespeare and the Zombie Plague of 1590 (cowritten with Richard Henry)

I heard a reading of this at the Asolo. This play mashes up all the greatest hits from Shakespeare's canon. This play has many funny and touching moments. The Gravediggers are a particular highlight of this piece!

  • Monica Cross: Hue and Saturation

This play is a snapshot of so many conversations surrounding art. Does it have to be challenging and out there or can it still be art if the artist is painting what they like? It is ok to take things slow, do you have to burn yourself out along the way? Ripley and Robin come from opposite ends of the artistic spectrum but find themselves both on a space station contemplating painting the sky. This play is challenging and heartbreaking. So much for actors to work with!

  • Monica Cross: Space

This play encapsulates the moment when a couple begins to realize that they aren't going to work out. But with the added complication of living on the moon. This touching play offers a great scene study for actors and has a lot of fun potential for designers. Definitely check it out!

  • Monica Cross: The Burdens

This play is fast-paced and full of twists and turns. This play could be done literally anywhere: all you need is two actors (maybe two cell phones) and the script does all the rest! Full of emotion and lessons on life, this play takes the audience on an adventure as told through text messages.

  • Monica Cross: Apples in Winter

I just saw a production of this play at the Urbanite Theatre in Sarasota, FL. This play is a powerful piece for female actors, 60+. The single character in the play, Miriam, grapples with the complexities of trying to reconcile unconditional motherly love with genuine fear of one's own child. The play's imaginative staging requirements (baking a pie on stage) immerses the audience in the horrific reality of the play. This piece is a great choice for intimate theatre venues!

  • Monica Cross: How I Joined the Navy, A Monologue

This monologue highlights the difficulties of war. Set in WWII, the speaker contemplates how he has ended up in the midst of battle when he never wanted to fight in the first place. A great piece about humanity, with a few darkly comic moments.

  • Monica Cross: Rocks Algae Water Stars

This plays is touching, beautiful, funny, and heartbreaking all at the same time. Two mars rovers, they have one job and they have each other. But what if that isn't enough? This play anthropomorphizes these little robots to explore a very human struggle to find purpose. This is such an imaginative piece!

  • Monica Cross: Judith, Princess of Stratford-upon-Avon

Wow, what heartbreak! This play looks at Shakespeare's career through the eyes of those left in Stratford. The characters are so beautifully written. A must read!
