We all know those ending to movies or TV shows where the parents have to say goodbye to their kids when they go away to college but this imagines that conversation between the parents the next day. This is a beautifully written short play that will make you laugh and warm your heart.

I feel like in the hands of a lesser writer this allegorical play would come off as obvious and lazy but Pazniokas has crafted some really complicated characters and has them tell this story in unique and surprising ways. I don't think I've seen the cycle of abuse portrayed on stage like this. The playwright draws on well known truths and even aspects of theatre of the past (anybody else getting a Streetcar Named Desire vibe from this) to create this experimental, fantasy play that I'll be thinking about for awhile.

Really interesting experimental theatre piece that used movement to explore status as we follow these two frenemies on their artistic paths.

Had a good laugh at the end of this play. It's a joke about low class folks interpreting what they assume to be high class art and it's a joke that the playwright wrings for all it's worth in such a short time and makes you consider the ways you look at art yourself.

  • Shaun Leisher: Meant To Be

A refreshing take on the "meet-cute" short play that ends badly and hysterically.

WOW!!! I've read plays before that look at how disconnected we all are but this does it in such a unique way and without going on about our obsession with technology. Cool way to reveal passage of time. Plus Greta's arc is so well written and the resolution both surprises and makes total sense.

These two characters are such mysteries and that's a big thing I love about this short play. They can be heartbroken, cocky and on some weird tangent all in one moment. This is a great exploration of the telling of a story and how we put ourselves in the tragedies of others at times.

  • Shaun Leisher: All This Togetherness

A short play with this big of a cast probably shouldn't work but it really does. The writer knows how to use such a short time to take advantage of the ensemble while also making each character distinct. I felt so invested in this play and that is thanks to the brilliant device of making us (the audience) the person all these characters are hear to meet. This play has so much heart and is just really clever.

This short play is so current and alive. This is a conversation that needs to be happening. It's a conversation that well-intentioned white liberals in the theatre need to hear and chew on. These characters aren't just mouth pieces for a thesis statement though. They are so complicated and layered and, most importantly, familiar.

While modern technology has changed how were remember our relationships (especially after they end), the ways we need to let go is still very much the same. This short play in an absurd comedy that feels so real and honest.
