  • Shaun Leisher: STAN, or The Dinosaur Play

Such a fun and silly play that has some really meaningful things to say about the ethics surrounding extreme wealth and auction houses. This is play about a woman who just wants to do something meaningful with her life. A woman that is tired of being looked down upon because of her class. She just wants a comfortable life for her and her partner. To achieve all this she gets in way over her head and almost loses everything she holds dear. This is a really fun script about the responsibility our society has to cultural artifacts. Please produce this.

  • Shaun Leisher: Hedda or, A Vain Struggle or, The Earth Without Form

Gonzaelez has done a great job at updating this story to modern times. Discussions of class and race feel very at home here. I loved the uses of exit and entrances to signify new scenes. I loved the way Hedda holds court in every room she is in. This play greatly improves on the original in my opinion. A play that has classically been cast with all white actors is given new life with the specific writing of characters of color. Please produce this play and give Ibsen a break for a bit.

  • Shaun Leisher: the fog comes on little cat feet

A play about an overnight shift at a veterinary emergency room where family and strangers gather together because the animals they love need help. On its surface, it's a play about the importance furry friends can have in our lives but it's also about so much more. It's a play about getting over loss. It's a play about disappointing people we love. It's a play about trying to better ourself. These characters all have so much baggage they are dealing with with various levels of success and I am rooting for all of them. A wonderful ensemble piece.

  • Shaun Leisher: I Keep Leaving Parties Early

A great short piece for actresses of different ages. I loved how blunt and upfront these women are when it comes to their individual experiences. Kennedy does a great job at capturing women different phases in their life. Whether it be the girl with her whole life ahead of her, the woman looking back at her youth or someone in between, these characters connect on their desire to be appreciated for who they are.

  • Shaun Leisher: Safe Walk

Another short play by Kane that takes tough current events and puts a human face on it. This play has the perfect balance of gravitas and humor. Brilliant choice to make the volunteer walking companion a Black male. This does an effective job at showing the fact that it's not only white women who feel unsafe at night on college campuses. I feel like this play would be great to perform at undergrad orientations.

  • Shaun Leisher: Chocolate Chip Pancakes

This short play does a great job at tackling a huge issue like abortion with so much heart. Kane's dialogue feels so natural. I loved all the mundane conversation that happens in this play before we figure out what is really going on. This play has the potential to create much needed conversations. I wish pro-life activists were forced to sit down and experience a story like this. Maybe their mind won't be changed but it will be good for them to see the "other side" as human.

  • Shaun Leisher: LA CASA DEL CUCO

An excellent meditation on fame and family that goes to some really dark places. I loved the use of the different forms of media. I could see video projections being a really effective way of commmenting on screen culture. I want to see what a design team does with these dolls and puppets. This play is a great look at what it could look like for a disgraced celebrity to attempt to make a comeback. I was hooked on that plotline but then some real horror shit happened and I was glued in even more. Produce this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: SUBLIMATION

I loved how subtle the queer themes were in this play. So refeshing to have a play about LGBTQIA+ characters that's not about trauma or coming out. This play also has some really meaningful things to say about chemical warfare and the complicity held by scientists when it comes to the development of weapons used to harm civillians. I loved the magic decontamination shower and how the way it works is never explained. I loved how it inspires the doctors to make change to stand up to those in power. I'd love to see this produced with a full set.

  • Shaun Leisher: Death Doula

On its surface, this is your classic living room play but Borders is able to bring something really unique to the genre. This play is an exploration of how people deal with grief in different ways and how our society in general handles death. Without being seen, Harry is a character in this play that looms over all that occurs. This play tackles heavy subjects but does so with a lot of humor. I hope this play gets produced all over and we get to have some hard conversations about dying and the death industry.

  • Shaun Leisher: DEERWATCH

I really loved this play. It went places that I definitely didn't see coming. Tumey has written some really layered characters. Characters that should not be together but something metaphysical keeps them in each other's lives. I loved the dystopian world that is created here. I loved that we don't get to know much details about how the world got like this. This is just how the world is. I'd love to see this play produced. These roles are great for an ambitious ensemble of actors and this world requires an equally ambitious team of designers.
