  • Emily McClain: PERSPECTIVES

An elegant exploration of modern art, art criticism, and the commercialization of contemporary art. The ending punchline is delightful! I really enjoyed reading this play!

  • Emily McClain: One Job Thou Hadst: Giovanni (Monologue)

In the grand tradition of exploring the untold stories of minor characters, One Job Thou Hadst gives us a brilliant glimpse of what happened to poor beleaguered friar that didn't get the letter to the recipient- with disastrous results. You have so much sympathy for the well-intentioned Giovanni, and the references to the main storyline provide enough winks-and-nods to make an audience feel like they're getting a special insight not everyone else receives! Great work!

  • Emily McClain: The RAKEoning

A short play packs a lot of tension into a brief span of time! Suburbanites experiencing existential crisis has been explored by plenty of different writers, but there is something so dark and fresh about Prillaman's perspective on Ashleigh's mental bRAKE down (sorry I couldn't resist). Wonderful subtext and the looming menace of an unhinged housewife makes for an exciting window into life in the 'burbs.

  • Emily McClain: BY THE NEON LIGHTS OF THE TACO BELL SIGN

I wonder what different path my life might have taken if I had encountered Trinity in the Taco Bell parking lots I frequented as a teenager. This short play is sweet as a cinnamon twist, but with a beautiful crunch! Cross has a gift for authentic connection without over-sentimentality, and BY THE NEON LIGHT is no exception. Read this play and then take over a Taco Bell parking lot and produce some drive-thru theater!

  • Emily McClain: Massage Envy

The premise alone was enough for me to say, "yes, please!" This short play is exquisitely paced, the awkwardness of the situation is amped up by the client's incessant chatter that ultimately reveals the set up for a wonderful twist (not that kind of twist!) at the end. This would be a wonderful addition to a ten-minute play festival!

  • Emily McClain: Booger Girl

I consider myself deeply fortunate to have read this script. It is a fever-dream, surreal and poignant, ripe with modern darkness and magical realism. Sam is one of the most compelling female characters I've come across in a long time and her strength inspired me long after I finished reading. And I will never look at fruit salad quite the same way again. Read this play, absorb the weird and wonderful world Skura creates on the page, and immerse yourself in the journey.

  • Emily McClain: you are going to do amazing things

In this beautifully written love-letter to a daughter he may never fully meet, Hernandez creates such a rich journey for the character of Riley and we are fortunate enough to witness his attempts to make this recording. Brimming with pathos and deep emotional resonance, this piece is producible in live and digital theatre formats. This is a gift to an actor wanting to showcase range and connection. Do yourself a favor and read it!

  • Emily McClain: WHITE NOISE

Although it could be said that satire is impossible to write nowadays because the real world is so outrageous, Martin spins a completely believable concept that holds the line of dark comedy and satire, while acknowledging the reality that none of us would be surprised if the products being plugged within the piece showed up on our Facebook ads tomorrow.... This play is dark, relevant, and thought-provoking without being hamfisted or preachy. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: From Dust We Are

In this dark and tense dinner party, Hendricks posits the end of the world leaving just two people: religiously minded Jacob and his unwilling guest, Delilah. The play centers the danger of her situation from the first moments and keeps the foot on the gas towards its violent conclusion. If I were in her shoes, I'd have done the same thing. This piece would be a great addition to a Halloween or thriller-themed play festival! Great work!

  • Emily McClain: Car Games

The beautifully drawn characters come alive in Cathro's hands. The tension, along with the feeling of claustrophobia that can only come from a car trip, propels the dramatic action forward as the stakes of the simple "games" they play become higher and higher.
Oh, if only we lived in a world where a routine medical procedure didn't have to involve a tremendously long road trip. But alas, our current political landscape will probably render this piece more timely than ever.
Thank you for writing this play!
