  • Emily McClain: Under Multicolored Lights

The opening image of this play (a small child seated in the middle of an intersection) is so jarring, but when it is combined with the sparse-but-subtext-rich dialogue of his damaged parents the emotional impact of the story is undeniable. Hearing it aloud I was moved to tears- I can only imagine I would be reduced to a blubbering mess to actually see it performed. If you are looking for something to shake up the usual holiday fare, please produce this incredible piece of theatre.

  • Emily McClain: POSITIVE

This play brilliantly encapsulates the way our lives can intersect other peoples' at what could be critical points for them, but its just another typical day for us- or vice versa. Krause builds a theatrical moment out of this everyday interaction. T's final monologue is a great example of selective stream-of-consciousness too. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtledoves

This short play is delightful and unexpected. I need more TMNTdoves in my life. Don't let the Mutagen get you down. Read this play instead!

  • Emily McClain: AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION, A Play for Videoconference

    Two words: Wombat Altruism.
A few more words: this play manages to capture the surrealism of this past year without feeling gimmicky or on-the-nose. It's bizarre but authentic because these are bizarre times. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: Focus: A Zoom Play

This play brilliantly skewers corproate culture and focus-group testing filtered through the bizarre lens of a Zoom meeting. Prillaman makes me laugh more than any other playwright and this play is no exception. The comic possibilities from this collection of misfits was so exciting to read- I want to produce this play! Also, I'm pretty sure I know Trout in real life....

  • Emily McClain: The Meadow - 10 Minute Play

Really nice murder-mystery! The final reveal is satisfying and the lead-up to it keeps a steady pace. I especially enjoyed the fact that it's an all-female cast as well. This would be a lot of fun for actresses to bring to life!

  • Emily McClain: Innings and Outings

As someone who doesn't enjoy baseball but loves a good play about fathers and daughters, this play delivered on more than a father trying to impart a love of the game to his reluctant children. I really appreciated the nod to the tension that comes with father-daughter relationships as the daughter grows up and seeks to redefine her relationship with her dad. There is a lovely, old-timey comic vibe for some of the dialogue that was a nice surprise too. Great work!

  • Emily McClain: GROWTH IN ISOLATION

I had the pleasure of listening to a podcast performance of this play and the surprising reveal and subsequent fallout of that moment was so engaging. Cross' dialogue is snappy and natural. This play truly makes the most of the phrase "personal growth." It's an ideal play for college performers and fully embraces the digital theatre platform. Produce this play!

  • Emily McClain: Moment Before Impact

The way Carbajal effortlessly interweaves urgency with laconic ease makes this one-minute play an incredibly powerful piece of theatre. The dialogue has a beautiful rhythm to it (I especially appreciated the "Things He/She Thought" structure that was repeated several times) and is deeply felt without being cloying. If our final moments must be so abrupt as these characters, I hope they can achieve the same Thorton Wilder-esque introspection. Wonderful work!

  • Emily McClain: Black, White, & Red All Over

Thank you for bringing a charming Internet moment from the early pandemic days to life with wit and irreverency. The clash of personalities along with the limits of each of their knowledge create a hilarious back-and-forth of this historic first meeting of penguin and panda. I laughed aloud multiple times while reading it. I LOVE THIS PLAY SO MUCH!
