  • Emily McClain: The Presidency of William Henry Harrison in Real Time: A 10 Minute Play

The Hall of Presidents is *the* most bizarre experience at a Disney theme park (and I'm including the nightmarish hellscape of It's a Small World so that's really saying something) but Hayet's play is smart and chock full of historically accurate tidbits. I had sympathy for Harrison and his very relatable objective to justify his existance to a bored and emotionally distant but powerful clipboard-holding figure. In this elite club of 45 men, who deserves their spot? Harrison makes a strong argument for himself and you'll be a better citizen for reading it!

  • Emily McClain: Manticore!: A One-Minute Play

This play contains the most beautiful and satisfying moment. I hope it's as tasty for Noosha as it was for me. Henry builds a fabulous world in only a minute. Hooray for Manticores!

  • Emily McClain: Date with Death

Such a wonderful foray into dark comedy that has wonderful physical comedy possibilities: from the opening sequence of the body bag being dragged into the room to hiding from the detective at the door, this play would be so much fun to direct and a tremendous pleaasure to act in. Broadly comic roles for women are still hard to find, but Hayet brings two equally funny characters to life in this short play. Looking forward to seeing it!

  • Emily McClain: GOLDFISH MOBILITY

This monologue is simply delightful. It's funny and refreshingly upbeat, but with a subtle edge. In an age of oversharing balancing against isolation, the message is clear: goldfish deserve wheelchairs, but maybe not YouTube channels. Wonderful work!

  • Emily McClain: Eucalyptus Drops, Cobblestone Alleyways, Sodium Pentathol and You

This play pops you into an exciting (but little known) period of English history with only a time-travelling grad student and talking cat as your guides. The dialogue is so smart! It's a dark comedy with a dash of romance.... and did I mention there's a talking cat? Delightful!

  • Emily McClain: SETTLEMENTS

I had the pleasure of listening to this play as part of the Quarantine Players podcast. Rozin's play is incredibly compelling with nuanced characters and a really captivating subject matter. Beyond the BIG topics of Israel-Palenstine and American Jews complex positions on this issue, the push-pull of artistic statements that don't please the people paying for the art resonated deeply for me. This play does so much and it achieves amazing depth and leaves audiences with so many important questions to ponder. Wonderful work!

  • Emily McClain: JOIN THE MOVEMENT

This play will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever received a Facebook message from some high school acquaintance that starts "Hey Hun, I've got an AMAZING opportunity for you!"
Carnes builds a completely believable world that starts with annoying wine-drinking MLM women and spirals to the inevitable conclusion of ritual sacrifice. It's totally hilarious and brilliant. Read while wearing your favorite pair of leggings. #blessed

  • Emily McClain: The Pity Mourner (Ten Minute)

While one might not immediately think of a wake as fertile ground for a blossoming romance, Donnelly's charming two-hander will change your mind. The characters are so recognizable and sincere in their interactions with one another. You are rooting for them from the first page.
This play also provides beautiful, meaningful roles for older performers which is always nice to see! Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: How Jamie's Hatred of Smoking Brought About the End of Civilization as We Know It

Honestly, this is the most likely apocalypse scenario I've ever read. We won't be undone by viruses, nuclear war, climate change... it's definitely going to be assholes tossing cigarette butts out their car windows.
This play is energetic, funny, and it's just itching to be produced. I especially enjoyed the sincerity with which both characters engaged with the idea that Jamie maybe, possibly, probably actually did cause the rapture. Trust me, open a can of salmon and read this play!

  • Emily McClain: THE 13TH CRIME

We. can all agree that Christmas traditions have evolved over time (Ex: what the hell is figgy pudding and why are these people loitering on my lawn yelling about it?) but Cross brings the age-old conflict to new life in this delightful satire. We cheer for St. Nicholas and Father Christmas with their commitment to saving the Spirit of Christmas but their mission puts them on a collison course with the Big Man himself. This dark comedy would be an awesome addition to a holiday-themed 10 Minute Play Festival!
