  • Emily McClain: From Dust We Are

In this dark and tense dinner party, Hendricks posits the end of the world leaving just two people: religiously minded Jacob and his unwilling guest, Delilah. The play centers the danger of her situation from the first moments and keeps the foot on the gas towards its violent conclusion. If I were in her shoes, I'd have done the same thing. This piece would be a great addition to a Halloween or thriller-themed play festival! Great work!

  • Emily McClain: Car Games

The beautifully drawn characters come alive in Cathro's hands. The tension, along with the feeling of claustrophobia that can only come from a car trip, propels the dramatic action forward as the stakes of the simple "games" they play become higher and higher.
Oh, if only we lived in a world where a routine medical procedure didn't have to involve a tremendously long road trip. But alas, our current political landscape will probably render this piece more timely than ever.
Thank you for writing this play!

  • Emily McClain: That What Buried

The posted excerpt for THAT WHAT BURIED gives an exciting glimpse into the world of this play. McIntyre creates beautiful and engaging characters in the sisters, and the choice of Post WWII Paris is such a specific location for the challenges the women face. Hope to see or read the full script in the future! Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: THE ARIA OF JULIE D'AUBIGNY, the cross-dressing, sword-fighting, opera singer, wherein she seduces men and women alike, wins numerous duels, must be twice pardoned by the King, and eventually finds true love.

What a dynamic, complex, riveting play! I was fortunate enough to hear a reading of this piece in development and it swept me up into a world of intrigue and romance. D'Aubigny's story needs to be told and this play brings her to life in a way that is relevant and relatable. The final moments of the play are so beautiful. I was truly moved, even in the simple setting of a virtual reading. I cannot wait to see how Cross further brings this vision to life!

  • Emily McClain: Bereavement Leave

I cannot recommend this play enough! Dark and timely, there is something wonderfully comforting that the soul-sucking bureaucracy of office politics exist even in the most horrifying of jobs. While the characters in this play are numbers and job titles, they sparkle off the page with personality and energy. It is deeply disturbing. It is brilliantly thought-provoking. It is unexpectedly, laugh-out-loudly FUNNY. This play desperately needs to be produced and brought to life.
And you thought YOUR job was bad.... at least you don't have to kill people with keystrokes. AMAZING.

  • Emily McClain: [Shakespeare reference] (Full Length)

Surprising and complicated, this romantic comedy is tinged with a bittersweet longing of "what might have been." We slip into the fantasy along with the characters- and like the characters, we are jolted back to reality when the wedding weekend comes to an end. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Thank you!

  • Emily McClain: MY LIFE IN THEATRE -- A series of plays, monologues and skits about life in the theatre

Such a wonderful celebration and skewering of all the beautiful aspects of theatre! Kimmel's skills with comic timing and word play is on full display in this collection, and I defy any "theatre person" to read them without recognizing themselves somewhere within these sketches and monologues. Fantastic and fun, easily adaptable for your production and casting needs, this would be an excellent choice for theatres of any size. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: The Curse Of Dysfunction

"THE CURSE OF DYSFUNCTION is wonderfully creepy and dark. It's a story about a family in crisis, and Baynard ramps up the normal course of events with Kaylee's dangerous secret. The tension mounts so aggressively throughout the piece and creates a tremendously satisfying (and horrifying!) ending. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: Daddy Mack (Video Version)

A beautiful, painful rendering of the risks of a long-distance online relationship and a wonderful extension of the new medium of digital theatre. My heart hurt reading this and I can only imagine how emotionally impactful it would be to see portrayed on my screen. Wonderful work, DC!

  • Emily McClain: THE PANTHEON WARS: DECLARATION

A wonderful tidbit of drama and intrigue! Mercury and Hermes have such distinct character voices- it's unfortunate that one has to be cut short! The darkly comic tone lands really perfectly for me in this short play.
