  • Brian Cern: Christmastown

It's a rare script that can make me laugh out loud in the reading of it, but it's spoke straight to the holiday-cynic in me. Hysterical, it masterfully skewers all the holiday movie tropes, without becoming one itself. I hope to see it on stage more.

  • Brian Cern: Waylay Makeover: A 10-Minute Play

A funny short piece, that I cannot believe hasn't happened in real life. The Ambush Make-Over Gone Bad is a fantastic plot that has festivals written all over it. I can't wait to see this staged!

  • Brian Cern: During/After

It's a reminder, really. All dressed up, woven, and interlocking.
    It's a reminder.
It's a reminder of what's just below the surface... The scars and blemishes that we carry, tugging on the strings that bind; that we don't reveal, lest we betray the image that image we project into the world.
Ornate and complex, the script provides plenty of meat for the actors to sink their teeth into. It would be a glorious addition to any black box theatre's season; intimacy of the space only adding to the exploration of character. I'm looking forward to reading more from Vogel.

  • Brian Cern: Gifting Jon

The kind of family drama I love: emotional, dark, perversely funny. All of the impact and dynamics of a broken family, with the tenderness of a child’s final attempt to find common ground.
I hope this finds a stage near me, I would very much love to see it.

  • Brian Cern: Dark Twist

Secrets, when held for so long, become like faded wallpaper in an old house. Once fresh and vibrant, they are now foundational- a defining quality that it impossible to picture not being there. “Dark Twist” unravels itself like the peeling of a brightly decorated Easter egg, and forces us to examine those fundamental events that shape who we are. Well crafters and exploratory, Dark Twist is a character drama that will stick with you.

  • Brian Cern: The Convoy

Life is all about perspective, isn’t it? Surely, the he differences between an adult and child, as shown here. But, also on how two individuals reflecting on the same events. Is it terrifying, or one big adventure?

Family memories, often hidden in plain sight. Shaping our future, or at the very least, what our futures are made to be.

I’m fascinated by the story, and would love to see it expanded into a full length play.

  • Brian Cern: Mirror Mirror Mirror (10 Minute Play)

It's easy to go into this piece with the feeling that you've seen it before. The onslaught of self criticism that is felt within the confines of a dressing room.
It's a simple, yet profound, flip that Morgan takes that transforms this into a wonderfully uplifting piece about self-empowerment.
A troupe will be well served to highlight the power of it's young women through the performances of this play.
