  • Brian Cern: Sins of Emission: A Monologue

Beautiful and heartbreaking. The fear and confusion about puberty is traumatic enough, and that's without the realization that you are developing into what you have been taught to believe is shameful. The beauty of Baker's monologue is that he conveys all of that in th simplest, most eloquent way possible. Not a comma, not a breath, out of place.

  • Brian Cern: meat cute

Peel off the bandaid. Look under the rock. Look below the surface. Everyone has a story, and it's not necessarily yours to understand. Therein lies the power of "meat cute," and it's unapologetic about it. The magic, however, is in its telling, in which we begin to understand. We, as a society, need exposure to more pieces like this.

  • Brian Cern: Two Sleeping Babes

Oty has created a compelling tale in which a grieving mother confronts a journalist that she is convinced is running a smear campaign against here. I found myself being drawn in by the terse dialogue, and wanted to see more of this story. As the show if currently listed as "In Development," let me add that I do want to see more, and I feel that the story may be too big for a ten minute format. Very compelling.

  • Brian Cern: Special Extra Treatment

Laugh out loud hysterical! Perfect timing and a hell of a rip on the Extras trope. The amount of humor in its brisk pages is staggering. Defiantly worth the read, if not a full blown productions.

  • Brian Cern: LIGHTS UP!

I so want this to be a true story!! Where the community theatre actor is suffering from a wildly inflated self-image, only to be put in their place.
In general, i'm not usually a fan of plays about theatre. I find that they usually spend too much time explaining the set up, that they don't have enough left for the actual plot. This is not the case here. "Lights UP!" wastes no time with the backstory and heads straight to the action. In the process, Levine creates a universally relatable situation.
This is a true gem that should be performed!

  • Brian Cern: Mime to Quit

I have read several of Morgan's works, and this stands out as a favorite. Unique and original, both in concept and presentation, it is sure to provide an exciting challenge to both director and actors. Audiences are sure to delight in the originality and the slapstick.
A fun and delightful piece that is sure to be a people pleaser. Do yourself a favor, and add this to your festival line up NOW!

  • Brian Cern: STRIKES AND SPARES

A quick, light hearted piece that is good for a smile and chuckle. Two bowling buddies discover that they are both dating the same woman. Short and to the point, there isn’t a bit of unnecessary fluff on the piece. It would be fun to see this staged.

  • Brian Cern: Rockefeller versus Rivera [10 Minutes]

An imagining of a discussion between Nelson Rockefeller and Diego Rivera, Caruso succeeds in creating fully realize versions of the historical figures that is not dependent on a preexisting knowledge. (Not an easy task!)
The motivations and clear, dialogue punched and snappy. Well done.
While I know there is a 30-min version, I would be interested in seeing a full length on the same topic.

  • Brian Cern: GEEKY GERRY

A good monologue, it seems to me, needs to be able to stand on its own. Complete, self contained, whole. There’s an art to it.
This is what Ms Lermond gives us here. An up beat and snappy monologue that is self contained and independent of what (may) surround it.
    Very enjoyable!

  • Brian Cern: ACCIDENTAL ROOMMATES

A fun, comi-drama about families. Full of heart, the story centers around a woman, trying to maintain her composure as her aging mother moves in.
In an industry that is in desperate need for characters of a "certain age," what a joy it is to read a piece that not only offers several, but that are well-developed and not cliche. I'm looking forward to seeing the success of this play.
