  • Mike Byham: FOR THE RECORD...

I saw this play performed recently and really liked it. I'm a sucker for father-son connection tales and FJ Hartland does this so eloquently here. The relationship is well-defined, and the emotional dialogue feels true to life. Beautiful short two-hander certain to be a festival favorite everywhere.

  • Mike Byham: The Missing

I was lucky to see this performed recently. The tension is apparent from the start but you're not aware of its source. As Mabey provides the reveal, your heart breaks a little, then by the end, a lot. Interesting and emotionally impactful. Well done.

  • Mike Byham: Summer Solstice

This is a very sweet look at an awkward first date - well, is it actually a date? The characters are complex enough to be interesting with the premise simple enough to drive a compelling story. This really works well as a funny story of nascent love. Bravo.

  • Mike Byham: The World Falls In: A Saga

I saw this staged at a festival recently and really enjoyed ruminating the dystopian elements tie in with today's political climate. Interesting outlook and smartly told with humor.

  • Mike Byham: Second Thoughts

This is a laugh out loud, funny rendezvous between a somewhat flighty, yet worldly bride-to-be and a reasonable, yet perhaps naive young lady. The little gems in the dialogue come fast and furious. There were many "laugh a second later" moments during the production I attended as the funny stuff was processed. Very enjoyable ten minutes.

  • Mike Byham: How About Them Dodgers

This is a cautionary tale with bite shrouded in moments of light comedy. Delicious. I was able to see this staged at a festival recently and the audience ate it up. Great dialogue and characters you feel for from the start. Well done from the start - "How about them Dodgers!"

  • Mike Byham: Familiar

Familiar story told beautifully. We all deal with dementia in one way or another, so this is extremely relatable. The frustration and patience of the son is rendered marvelously through the dialogue. LaBlanc wisely uses a light hand in guiding the narrative - so much so that the emotion really creeps up on you as reader or if you're lucky, as audience. Just a wonderful short that will linger long after end of play. Extraordinary.

  • Mike Byham: Lilies

Strong storytelling with exceptionally crafted dialogue leading to an unexpected hopeful and heart-warming conclusion. I was lucky enough to see this staged recently. The audience was moved by this wonderfully emotional short.

  • Mike Byham: New Level of Intimacy (or, The Play About Head Lice)

This fun short hits all the right notes for those of us with intimacy issues. When the practical solution to a really gross problem crosses the comfort line with someone you're just getting to know, what do you do? John Bray neatly portrays this dilemma with humor and heart in equal doses. Very enjoyable. It was a true delight seeing this staged. Sweet.

  • Mike Byham: Enraptured

A new level of absurdity is reached with ENRAPTURED. Right from the start we are engaged with three very distinct characters living out the end of times in separate ways. What would you do? Perhaps you can find your template here. So much fun and a true conversation starter. My friends and I had plenty to talk about following the festival where we saw this staged. Well done.
