  • You've Reached Justin
    8 Oct. 2021
Wow. Daniel is feeling weird because he kissed his best friend, Justin, yesterday and now Justin won’t answer the phone. Then murderous aliens start falling from the sky. A relationship play and an alien invasion, all in ten minutes. Original and wonderful!

“Isn’t there some comfort to be found, being in a play that affects the world for the worse, as opposed to all the other plays you’ve been in that affect the world not at all?” I love a smart comedy, and this ten minute play is full of intelligent humor! The Trump White House has commissioned a play made up entirely of leaked text messages from perceived Trump enemies, and watching the actors viscerally react to their first read through of the material - and hearing the director defend it - is fantastic.
  • THEATRE IS ...
    8 Oct. 2021
This monologue about the resiliency and importance of theater reads like poetry! It is gorgeous, and I feel like today was the perfect time to read it, as theaters are beginning to open back up and we’re all beginning to fill them again. I once read an article about how scientists discovered that our hearts sync up and beat as one in the theater, and this monologue feels like the perfect companion piece to that article, explaining why that is.
  • The Berenstain Bearadox
    8 Oct. 2021
What a fun monologue for an actor to perform! And such a relatable topic- I mean, we all pronounce it Beren-STEEN, right? Because that’s what it is. Like the dad in this monologue, I cannot accept that that might not be what it is. I love how this monologue escalates as the dad becomes more and more frantic as he spirals out of control. A thoroughly enjoyable mental breakdown!
  • That Good Night

This short play is beautiful. Two women - one a chaplain, one who has never prayed - both find themselves in the hospital chapel, praying for loved ones. For me, these women represent the best of humanity, and watching their conversation unfold gave me warm, hopeful fuzzies. Theater at its best!
  • The Other Hamilton (a Founding Family tragedy)
    7 Oct. 2021
I really enjoyed this play about Philip Hamilton as he comes of age and struggles with the past actions of his father while wrestling with the meaning of honor. With little songs woven through the piece as the end of Philip's young life is played out, it's an engaging and imaginative approach to telling the story of one of history's lesser known figures.
  • Elvis at Pemberley

This short comedy captures adolescence so perfectly. I loved the dialogue and the memories the play evoked of what it feels like to be young and confused and always one breath away from being mortally embarrassed. I saw this piece in the Two-Hander Slam yesterday, and it was one of the standouts for me.
  • A Demon Inside
    4 Oct. 2021
Oooh this creepy play keeps you on the edge of your seat to find out what will happen. An elderly mother's loneliness and guilt over the death of one of her daughters seems to be driving her slowly insane... and then a demon who looks like her dead daughter shows up. Part horror play, part testament to the power of family, "A Demon Inside" is a thrilling ride!
  • Strings
    3 Oct. 2021
I love a story that will take something I know and turn it on its head, and this short play does just that. A different angle on a well-known story, “Strings” is an engaging and surprisingly touching play.
  • Stiff Competition

You’ll never look at school science fairs the same way again after this short dark comedy. John Busser is a treasure. A twisted, hilarious treasure.
