  • DEATH IS A BUMMER
    2 Oct. 2021
This clever Halloween short has two great roles for teens and tension that escalates as you wonder how it’s all going to end. This would be a wonderful addition to an evening of Halloween plays!
  • Ben's Key
    2 Oct. 2021
I love an American history play! This short in which Ben Franklin is transported to a present-day Philadelphia bar is great. I really enjoyed seeing him discover everything and comment on it with his 18th century wording. His description of the McDonald’s, in particular, made me smile.
  • BLOOD OF MY MOTHER'S
    2 Oct. 2021
Every family has its secrets, and "Blood of my Mother's" is the story of one such family slowly unraveling as its secrets come to light. Full of surprises and things that aren't quite as they seem, this play is as messy and complicated as real life, with an ending I didn't expect.
  • The Virtuous Fall of the Girls from Our Lady of Sorrows
    1 Oct. 2021
High school is rough. Being a teenage girl is rough. Throw Catholicism on top of that - especially if you're queer - and things get even rougher. This play about a group of girls attending a Catholic high school in 2002 captures all of that so perfectly. Their struggles feel very real and relatable, the dialogue is engaging and fast, and I love that the nun has her own complexity rather than being a stereotype. Also the ending is perfect. What a beautiful play.
  • With Improvements by the Actors
    29 Sep. 2021
This short play is such a treat! Some actors reading through a new Danish play by Shakespeare take it upon themselves to improve it as they go. Fun and funny, with some great roles allowing actors to ham it up for ten minutes, "With Improvements by the Actors" is a delight from start to finish!
  • The Portrait From The Artist Who Was An Idiot
    28 Sep. 2021
This short play uses the theater space in such an interesting way! The audience is a huge painting that Michael painted on a wall of his dining room, and the characters comment on the painting as a whole and on individual people featured in it throughout the play. I bet this would be a fun one to see live. I love the zany situation and the very understandable reactions of the dinner guests.
  • Fremont Junior High Is NOT Doing Oklahoma!
    28 Sep. 2021
This play is a treasure! It follows a week in the life of the Fremont Junior High Drama Club Council as they debate whether or not they should do "Oklahoma!" as their spring musical. It is funny and sweet and earnest, and perfectly captures that tween stage of life - especially that tween drama kid stage of life - when everything feels either fantastic or devastating. I loved every second. Even the stage directions made me laugh. I would follow these drama kids anywhere, no matter what play they're doing.
  • Taylor Swift at a Bar on the Lower East Side at 2AM on a Tuesday
    27 Sep. 2021
Taylor Swift in a magical, secret bar helping a 20-something work through her problems is something I could have used in my 20s. I love the premise of this play and enjoyed watching these two women in very different places figure life out together.
  • Why Did You Bother Killing the Sea Witch?
    26 Sep. 2021
I loooove this. This short comedy points out that the Little Mermaid perhaps didn't think things through enough - maybe she and Prince Eric aren't very compatible? Maybe love at first sight doesn't really work out so well in real life? With sharp, funny dialogue, a premise I adored, and two soaking wet actors uncomfortable in their sticky clothes and their weird situation, this is a short I would love, love, love to see live.
  • Dark Twist
    25 Sep. 2021
I wanted to read this one before it was published, and I'm so glad I got my act together and did. A play about how what happens to us when we're young shapes our lives - both for good and for bad - Dark Twist will take you back to how it felt to be a teenager, trying to figure out who you are, what the world is, and how best to survive within it. It's a wonderful drama full of twists, surprises, and haunting memories. Philip Middleton Williams knocked it out of the park again.
