  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: I Will Miss You When You're Gone

I loved this play. A dramedy about life and death, grief and loneliness, and what it means to be a missing person, it is one of the best plays I've read in a while. I don't want to reveal too much more about the plot, because I loved watching it unfold with all its twists and surprises, but you should read this play because it is wonderful. Darkly comedic and with four great roles for women, I would love to see this play staged.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: UPRISING

A fictional story told against the backdrop of John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry, "Uprising" follows Sal and her free Black community as a fugitive participant of the raid shows up, injured and needing help - and the repercussions faced for helping him. Gabrielle Fulton weaves music and magical realism into the story, creating an engaging, bittersweet, gorgeous piece of theater.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Arabia, Arabia!

This play about a real-life Danish expedition to the Arabian peninsula is told in such a unique way! Historically, all but one of the characters die, but our Narrator finds a book about the expedition and, upon opening it, becomes part of the story and tries to change the course of history (flipping forward in the story every so often to see how well they're doing). A fast, fun reimagining of an expedition and a group of people I had never heard of, with a perfect ending as we learn why the Narrator is so invested in this tale.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Hanging Girl

"The Hanging Girl" is a wonderful, creepy, ghost story of a play. An urban legend comes to life for a bunch of teenagers near an old, abandoned quarry. I especially loved the scenes where the past and the present played out simultaneously. I would love to see this play on its feet.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Wake Up, Mrs. Moore

Oh my goodness, this play is beautiful. Virginia gets hit in the head with a beer can in the 1970s while marching for women's equality, hits her head on the curb, and spends 40 years in a coma. During those 40 years, we see the places she travels and the experiences she has in her mind, while we see life marching on for her sister, her caretaker, and her husband who refuses to give up on her. When she comes out of the coma, nothing is the same - inside and out. This play is bittersweet and wonderful.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Adam's Angels

This short play is terrific! A retelling of the Adam and Eve story, it wrestles with the role women are to play on Earth - as just being man's 'companion' isn't fulfilling. A new look at an old story, I was entertained and giggling the whole way through. This one is lots of fun!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Admission Impossible

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I am DELIGHTED. I am delighted! This short play about a dad trying to bribe a college admissions counselor for an expensive, prestigious university into rejecting his daughter's application is GOLD. So smart and funny and relatable. I loved it! I would love to see it staged, and now I have to go read all of Tom Moran's work.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: That Kind of Boy [a 1-minute play]

Oh my gosh, YES. I expected this one-minute play to go one way, but it went another, and it was perfect. This one made me smile.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Artist Formerly Known as T

In “The Artist Formerly Known as T,” a rapper named T-Rump learns that he needs to change his name if he doesn’t want his career to tank. T-Rump was his name long before someone with a similar name became President, and he wrestles with whether or not he can or should make the change. A very engaging short play about identity with well defined characters. I loved it!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Masking Our Blackness

This short play is fantastic. The dialogue is smart and fast and I was giggling along as I read, but the comedy kept getting darker and darker and darker, and eventually I stopped laughing. When pundits talk about theater's unique ability to teach and reach people, "Masking Our Blackness" is the kind of play they're talking about it. This one stays with you.
