  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Zabel in Exile

The thing that immediately struck me about this piece was the powerful and captivating imagery that surrounds the even more powerful and thought-provoking words! Faced with her own demise, Zabel guides the audience on the story through her life, a story laced with high emotion, and tension and told with wonderfully thought-provoking dialogue. As you focus on what is being said the images used can be easily seen within your mind's eye. For me, it was a play that invoked the senses because Zabel's world and the images the writer has created are just as much an experience as reading.

So, historically, sitcoms belong in the world of television but Christian has done an utterly fabulous job of bringing it to life on the stage! There were many moments where the 'laugh track' was just me laughing out loud, so it's very safe to assume an audience would do the same. Not only that but the stereotypes and elements that we are so used to seeing in a sitcom are all combined in a wonderfully witty and satirical way. Its a wonderfully imaginative way of bringing, not only a genre but an entirely different medium to life! Utterly fabulous!

The fabulous thing about this play (or one of the fabulous things) is that I was instantly struck by how real the characters were. I could see them both as Sarah chatted away about her life and her insecurities while Denita was more refined about talking about herself. These two wonderful characters draw the audience in and as the play progresses you are invited to discover more about their lives and their history. Its a play that is all about the saying rather than the doing which works perfectly because the dialogue is wonderfully emotional and comical in equal stead!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Your Server Tonight Is Cassandra

Taking a modern setting and mixing in classical characters has been done brilliantly here. I love the chaotic back and forth between the couple and Cassandra as she struggles to control her 'gift'. Rex has wonderfully balanced the humour in this slightly manic dinner so its sure to have an audience giggling along. If you're looking for a unique piece, maybe a bit different for Valentines Day, then this restaurant, and its poor server are definitely for you!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: You’ll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

Sheltering from reality, that's the theme that Rebecca offers to the audience in this very real and emotional piece. As the audience, we can relate to the idea of not wanting to leave the quiet solace of the kitchen when there's loads of people around, and in this case, I can imagine the solitude and escape is particularly needed. I don't want to say too much and ruin it but Rebecca has created a very real moment of emotion that the audience are invited to be a part of with a wonderful twist on the end.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: YOU WANT A WHAT?

The complications of being a writer know no bounds especially when this poor collection of writers are trying to make sense and write to the brief set by their teacher. It offers insight into the world of creating and left me thinking about if what is being asked is possible. In two minutes Adam is able to entertain, make you question and for me, I was feeling somewhat confused/exasperated at the idea of having to write to this rule! A brilliant answer to a complex request!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Yuletide Shakedown (2019 Version)

Its NEVER to early for fun and festivities ad Peter offers both of those in bucket loads here! Taking the festive time of year and mixing in a love story, a great plot that moves at a wonderful pace with great twists and throwing in all sorts of Christmassy puns! Its like Christmas came to life in a distorted way, the wonderfully funny kind. This play would make a great alternative to your 'standard' Christmas story and personally, I think it will leave you with a festive feeling any time of year!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: young women of valor

As someone who spent many summers at camp, this play not only captures that sad but memorable moment at the end of camp when you remember all the good times, but also provides the audience with a great snapshot into the lives of two girls considering the chapters that they have read to write in life. It offers a wonderful chance for two young actors to play very real characters who are discovering and reminiscing all at the same time in a wonderfully crafted style that had me smiling.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: X-Ray Vision at the Motel 9

The brotherly relationship is explored in a wonderfully delicate way. Hank is created with an innocence about him that you have to wonder if its really ready for the 'real' world that his brother shares with him? Ian takes a complicated relationship between Hank's innocence and Joe's realism and takes his audience on an emotional roller coaster through it. I did find myself smiling at the final moment as it is a beautiful snippet of their lives that's been created, even if it is emotionally complex. Both characters would be great to potentially perform!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Xiernon from Glixtar

Sometimes it takes an outsiders perspective for you to appreciate your relationship. Maripat has created a wonderfully funny outside and two very real humans who, despite the alien abductions going on around them, still manage to have a very real conversation about their relationship. The real and the sci-fi is balanced brilliantly with loads of lovely moments of humour that will ensure an audience are not only drawn into this strange scenario but get to enjoy giggling moments right the way through. My next stop is the audio production because I know an audio production will be just as...
