  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Vanilla Flavors and Our Days by the Sea

What appears to be a simple day at the beach where two people discuss their preferences and the memories they are hanging onto then becomes a truly memorable day when their day is interrupted by a couple of unexpected events, one of which being a mermaid! It's a perfect balance between the real and the mystical but at the same time it's interlaced with the idea of memory, remembering those we care about and what it takes to hang onto those memories. It's an enticingly beautiful piece.

We had the great joy of reading this play at our Sunday night play reading and... OH MY GOD! You are thrown head-first in a tension fuelled conversion between parents and son following a conversation with the police! From there the play twists and turns in an expert fashion and you will be left gasping out loud at some of the perfectly timed revelations. Deb has always had a great means of writing plays that move at a great pace and this is a perfect example of that. It offers a FABULOUS chance for three performers!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Under the Hills

The destruction of the natural world in the name of 'progress' is not a new thing to the human race but Michele has explored it in a wonderfully poetic way with vivid imagery as these two women follow the trail and explore both the past and the future and what it means for the path they find themselves on. I think it would make a wonderful radio play because if you close your eyes you can see, not only these women engaged in their conversation but the world they are discussing.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Umbrella

Chains of command and rules exist for a reason, but what if those very rules are potentially going to lead to harm to someone else? That is the concept that Jason has explored in a fun and entertaining way in this piece. For me, it's a piece that will insight conversation afterwards regarding the actions of the officers and whether they should have acted differently. It's an 'all-rounder' in the sense that it would be a great play to perform, direct and observe!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Up On The Roof (a ten minute play)

What happens when you ask for a sign about your relationship? You are presented with this wonderfully insightful and entertaining piece about human interaction and relationships. As an audience member, you are brought into a wonderful 'fly on the wall' experience that offers insight into what Carrie and Jason are wanting/needing out of their relationship. It's brilliantly crafted in a very real situation with relatable characters and would make a great performance.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Urine Trouble Now

So this is one of those plays where you start with a smile and that smile escalates into a grin, then a giggle and then by the end you are most definitely laughing out loud. The act of taking a drug test takes an interesting turn, and then another one, and then another one. All the while the audience has no idea what is going to be revealed next, but in the best possible way. Its a wonderfully funny piece at its heart that keeps on giving!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Bear- The Bear with the Golden Fur

Just when you think the adventures of bear (sorry The Bear) can't get any better, Chris BLOWS YOU AWAY! Once again you are presented with a monologue of another epic adventure complete with wonderful imagery that, if you were listening to it on radio you could see it clearly in your mind's eye. Not only that, but Chris, never satisfied with keeping it simple, twists and turns the story as well as giving it an ending that, I am not ashamed to say, brought a tear to my eye! This may be the Finale but the Bear will Live on!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: A Tree Grows in Longmont

"How long will you be here?" - "As long as I need to be" - That moment was the first of MANY that beautiful moments in this exploration Allen and Philip's relationship that wrenched at my heartstrings. Loss is something we all explore in different ways but here Philip not only explores the events of his relationship he opens himself up through his creativity, creating a 'show and tell' dynamic to the piece. Both characters, their history and the moment they share in this emotionally complex piece is something that is sure to touch an audience, utterly beautiful.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Conversos of Venice

I read this play with complete Awe at the dedication Ian has put to his research behind the story he's created! Its a play gorgeously rich and story and sets the imagination on fire with the way certain scenes are presented and the wonderful dialogue that is both witty and strong in equal measure. There are somethat would say Shakespeare has been overdone but Ian has created a wonderfully unique take on a tale that is well known across schools and colleges. Its a piece that offers a varied cast and a fabulous opportunity for directors and producers alike!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Ten Minute Play (with a Nice Picture of Jimmy Carter)

So, I actually discussed this play with Greg on a podcast interview, so it was destiny that I was always going to read it. In it Peter is portrayed as a very real playwright excited about a new piece, which is of course something I related to, as will many others. Not only has Greg created a wonderfully relatable situation for his two characters but he's intertwined it with brilliant back and forth dialogue. I had great fun reading it and enjoying moments of just smiling and laughing out loud. Its a play within a play that made me smile!
