One of the key trifectas for good theatre for me is that it has to make you feel something. Well, this piece, like so many others of Joe's does that in SPADES! Addiction is a horrible and horrendous disease, not just for the infected but for those around them, and that heartbreaking notion is what is explored here. You feel, not only for Justin but his family and even for Ted who is desperately trying to pull him back from this oblivion. It's a play where you can't help but feel something and it will create a powerful performance!

I'm really glad I read this in daylight because I'm not sure I would have slept otherwise! That's how powerfully haunting this piece inspired by a legend is. Its not really a piece that can be described, it needs to be experienced through reading or performance, and it definitely should. Its a piece that inspires creativity in the way it could be performed and will now doubt leave its audience with a lingering (and haunting) image.

Sci-Fi isn't my go to genre but I was fascinated by the way this piece was presented and drew you in with questions about what the travellers had found on the recently deceased Earth. Listening to the explanation of complexities like love and emotions gave the piece a wonderful layer and there are lovely moments that won't fail to make you smile.

"There is power in words", that was something that leapt out at me from this piece. The idea that a woman could tell a story of such a horrible event and then by the end one question could have all your thoughts turned on their head. Is a brilliantly powerful piece that would have audiences debating in the bar afterward for ages. It ticks all three boxes for me, it entertains, it makes you feel something and it forms a base for discussion. Brilliantly constructed.

We had the tremendous honour of having this piece read as part of our Sunday evening "Literary and Discourse Society" reading. Its a wonderfully humourous but at the same time heart warming piece revolving around 'paying it forward'. As with so many of Rex's works, its a beautifully constructed story with a lovely array of characters that present a wonderful thought about how we should treat those less fortunate. An utter pleasure to read and would be wonderful to watch/perform!

This is a wonderful piece that draws you in from the word go with the question of "Who is Bill and what does he want?" From there Dana guides you through this witty back and forth conversation that keeps you smiling right through and provides a fabulous ending as a reward. Its a classic example of Dana's skill to create wonderful situations with believable characters that you want to know more about.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: When in Rome

They say laughter is the best medicine and Morey offers you up plenty of laughable moments in this brilliant play on words with an ancient Roman theme. To avoid spoiling it for you I will just suggest that you read it, and soon. It offers performers the chance to play some really great characters and the audience the chance to laugh out loud, a lot!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Outlaw Dad

The fierce desire of parent protecting their child is apparent in this wonderfully written piece. It offers an actor to play a character with substance and a story, which is always a bonus. I've read a good few of Deb's monologues and she always manages to bring something/someone new and interesting to her pieces and this is a classic example!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Jack of No Trades

Yes! I wanted to cheer for this fabulous ending that Chris has placed on a well-known horrific figure. It's a wonderful twist at the end of a fabulous back-and-forth that will keep the audience guessing. For me, I think it would make a great show in a Halloween-themed festival. It's got pace, power, and an audience will love it!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Inside Man

Wow! This is an incredibly powerful piece that explored the complexity of family, relationships, and the difficulty of trying to make a fresh start when past mistakes haunt you. As an audience, you are treated to being a fly on the wall for Nick's transition from prisoner to 'outside man'. The difficulties Nick faces in his new life are brilliantly portrayed to the point where you do feel for him. It's an emotionally provocative piece with great characters both in the central role of Nick and in those around him. It's a piece you can't fail but feel something in.
