Alike the other monologue by Tom Erb with the same title, this is powerful stuff. For what must be eternity, we have breed our beliefs into our children, made them grow up in our mold. Not always a bad thing, but certainly is so when it comes to racism and bigotry.
Both Lessons here need to be told.

Wow, if there is ever a monologue to question ourselves, this is it! I have recently taken a online course through work on the subject of subconscious bias, this monologue by Tom, blows that out of the water!

Oh my word, I'm shedding the tears Madelyn is holding back! This is an exceptional monologue, not just for it's gut wrenching content, but also for the way it is written. For we get to hear not only how this young mother is trying to coax her broken, scared child back to school, we also get to hear her inner struggle.

Emotional, beautiful and simply excellent!

This is a true, honest, raw account of a first time meet of strangers, now neighbours, in the midst of a pandemic. Both characters are true and believable, audiences will feel for them both. If Covid taught us anything, it taught us to talk to folks we usually recognise but pass in the street without saying a word. This is captured sensitively in Pauls short play.

Brent has come up with a wonderful idea for a perfectly dark after life comedy here. Poor Tommy is in Limbo, a limbo which sees him in a rather dull office building, yet he's faced with a difficult choice.
The premise for this play is fun, as a result the playwright gets to gift us some fun scenarios along the way, especially about the various 'sightings' of Elvis.
Not sure I want to be a giraffe though....

Any production can really go to town producing this dark, short play by Brent, such is the atmospheric staging he suggests. Also this play would present a wonderful and exciting challenge to both key characters, especially the mysterious Nina.

And I can't leave this recommendation without highlighting one of the best lines I've read in a play for a while: 'Things don't seem as dark when you're already dressed in black.'

I love an opening line which gets you hooked and this play by Skye is a fine example. Two characters sitting round an open fire, a simple premise, but here there is so much back story, much regret and at it's heart love. Love can be a draw and a bind, stand it up against such extreme factors as in this play, then it becomes quite painful for both.
And credit to the playwright for giving us such a great, fresh perspective. Love it!

How lovely this play is!
There's a certain, very famous musical which begins with a music box and the memories it holds. Tom's play is sweet, atmospheric and evokes such personal memories, and along with perfectly selected music, will make for a very moving short play. Wonderful!

Wow, this is clever stuff! I love how each scene moves swiftly along, seamlessly merging each new character as it does.
I see this as a challenging piece of performance drama, a play which could be acted out by drama students, because there's so much to be experimented with here. Unique!

Family relationships can often be fractured, especially when neither side back down and insist on persisting in their own toxic ways.
It can take time together, with no distractions, to try to overcome this and make peace.
In THE CHANGE the playwright shows this perfectly in a difficult but ultimately sweet short two hander.
