  • Jennifer O'Grady: The Cavity - a monologue by D. Lee Miller

What a fabulous monologue! In just a couple of pages D. Lee Miller has conveyed the entire world of this character (SO Upper Eastside NYC) and pretty much everything she cares about, along with all of her subtext. A fascinating glimpse into a complicated woman and a terrific piece for a strong female actor.

  • Jennifer O'Grady: BEAR witness

I've loved other plays by Bates and this one (today's featured play) is equally poetic and powerful, inventive and theatrical and just really gorgeous, heartrending and haunting.

  • Jennifer O'Grady: EIGHT NIGHTS

Beautiful and theatrical play exploring the unique pain of a Holocaust survivor from her arrival in the U.S. at age 19 into her 80s, along with various friends and family members (living and dead) who popular her life and memories. This play is so moving on the page and would be even more wonderful on stage.

  • Jennifer O'Grady: INNER HARBOR

A fascinating play of epic proportions, theatrical and historical and expertly delivered to the audience by its characters including a marvelous talking ship. With fabulous roles for eight actors, this would be so wonderful to see on stage!

  • Jennifer O'Grady: Pam and Steve Go to the Show

Lots of New Yorkers (me included) know the eye-rolling feeling of being stuck behind wide-eyed tourists while trying to navigate our way through the Times Square hordes. But Corley’s charming walking play made me love the two tourists characters experiencing Times Square for the very first time. It also perfectly captures the thrill of being en route to see a Broadway show for the first time. A wonderful play celebrating New York, new experiences and love.

  • Jennifer O'Grady: Into the Dark

Extremely powerful play that appears to be one type of frightening situation--a woman walking on her own at night, and a car with a male driver following her--which Lamedman skillfully navigates into an even more chilling encounter with stunning political reverberations . So well done!

  • Jennifer O'Grady: No One Talks About It, a 10 minute Lactation Play

I'm so glad this was the featured play and that I got to read it. Speaking as parent, I think this play perfectly captures the acute pain and tacit societal shaming of women who have difficulties with breastfeeding--difficulties that are often unanticipated because--like miscarriage before it--no one ever freaking talks about it. Thank you, Cassie M. Seinuk, for writing such a moving and illuminating play on this topic!

  • Jennifer O'Grady: Bride of Bigfoot

Funny and wonderfully quirky short play from Lawing with a fun suspense story and thought-provoking dialogue. I love the screaming too!

  • Jennifer O'Grady: The Missing Link

This is such a lovely play. Trust Hageman to take a concept like Bigfoot and use it to create something beautiful and truthful between a (human) father and son. This would be even more wonderful on stage.
