  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: A Story About a Girl

So moving and complex. This play takes on a lot - lives - in all their messiness! While the play is filled with beauty, love, longing, and the power of art, it is also filled with the frustration of being differently abled living in a world that does not really ever take that into account. I loved the ways Reingold uses rhythms to depict the differences in the abled world and the disabled people struggling there. There is a lot to love in this piece! I hope it gets produced soon!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: She Will Have Freesias

Lovely recognition. The dancing in the beginning, the husband's jealousy of his wife's past as if he could have all of her time when time is running out runs counterpoint to the sibling rivalry that gets us right up to the moment of recognition - beautiful slice of life that speaks volumes.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Hucka

This play is both hilarious and deep, dark and strange. Willett defamiliarizes our earliest ideas of brotherhood and uses a feminist lens to shed light on where we are today. I love her use of mythology! I could write pages about HUCKA, so full of symbol and meaning. And the character herself is FASCINATING! A strong young female lead to root for! A wild new American myth for our time! I would love to see it staged!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Phillie's Trilogy

I could not put it down! Forward momentum in this fast-paced comic drama is a skill that DeVita has mastered, and the play pulled me along as if I rode in a little red wagon. There is so much theatricality in here packed into a very playable realism, I'm impressed. The characters lift off the page, and I get a very strong sense of exactly what this looks like onstage. Accessible and funny while exposing the homophobia of our conditioning both now and then. I remember it well, and this is a very skillful rendering!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Digna

A truly beautiful play that Davis crafts with great attention to language. I am moved and angered and inspired by it! Read it and produce it! The life of Digna Ochoa deserves to be seen, known, understood and mourned.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: A List of Some Shit I've Killed

Wonderful take on toxic masculinity and how effed up it makes us all. I especially love the note about maybe casting the play with an all female cast - that would be awesome to see! My favorite part though is the list itself, or maybe the tear rolling down Odie's face after he prays, or maybe - there are a lot of parts to favor! Read on!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Cougar

The whole world has to change - this is what I tell my students when I teach the short play form - and COUGAR by Holli Harms changes the whole world, not only the world onstage, but the audience too. What a beautiful and unexpected delight! Surprises on every page! Deep and funny and deeper still. Thank you Ms. Harms for this charming play!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Man of God

Wonderfully theatrical play that is killer intense! A great examination of the male gaze from the female perspective and all the ways we are unable to confront it in our g-d-forsaken effed up world. LOVE THIS PLAY!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: AN ECO-FABLE: SOONER THAN YOU THINK (full length)

Thrilled to be able to recommend this climate change fable that was developed at the WriteNow Workshop where I had the privilege to see the wolf, rabbit and crow come to life. I love the crow's costume. Rice is a very visual thinker and her images - whether written in the beautiful monologues or mentioned in stage directions - are fantastic!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: PECKING ORDER (full length)

I am very proud that this timely comedy was developed at the WriteNow Workshop in NYC where I first had the privilege to see these characters come to life! A confrontation of class and a great love of nature pulls me in, and Rosie breaks my heart. A diverse cast of characters brings the city to the stage and gives us something to cheer for - I hope it has a long and happy life on the boards!
