  • Shaun Leisher: Divine Feminine, or The Male Validation Play

A play about the bonds we form in college and also how cruel young women can be to each other. I was fascinated by how the mood abruptly shifts when Jake enters from one of lightness and fun to one of competition and cruelty. I loved how unique each of the female characters are. They are complicated and messy and just trying to survive the hook up culture that seems to be a rite of passage for college students. This would be a fun piece for a short play festival.

  • Shaun Leisher: This Is How Ghosts Speak (10 minutes)

I loved this creepy short play. Diamond has crafted a wonderful piece of theatre that really leans into mood. These characters are so relatable. I loved this scrappy group of people that just want their theatre to succeed. I loved the use of lighting in this play. This play would be really fun to perform. I would love to see this play performed in an actual haunted theatre. Diamond has done a great job exploring the pitfalls of working in the theatre as well as the world of the macabre.

  • Shaun Leisher: Waiting, or Something Equally Tragic

What brilliant and subtle way to explore an issue as important as domestic abuse. I loved the way Teitelman does not give any specific attributes like age or race to these characters or the way she refuses to set this play in a certain place or time period. This is truly a conversation that could be had by anyone that identifies as a woman anywhere and at any time. I loved how these women bond over something as mundane as taking the bus to the store. This would be a great piece to work on with a female ensemble.

I loved the fact that this family is liberal. It shows that even democrat families can stuggle with these kinds of issues. This is less a story of a trans person coming to terms with their identity and more about how the rest of the family reacts. This is a conversation that needs to happen all across this country. As we face these times, where trans people are under attack we need thoughtful pieces of art like this to inspire and comfort us.

  • Shaun Leisher: EMERGENCY CONTACT

I really loved this play. A play about hookup between two people that meet on an app that goest terribly wrong. You can tell from the minute Shawn walks into Derrick's apartment that this night will not go as planned but there was no predicting what would actually happen. This play is such an honest depiction of mental illness and codependent relationships. All three of these characters have their own demons to deal with and I really appreciated getting to witness them at their most vulnerable. Produce this play.

Boy oh boy did I love this play. I just finished reading it and my head is still spinning. It's an enigma of a play in the best way possible. I loved how absurd this play got with each passing email from Jonny. This play perfectly captures office culture and how arbitrary evaluations can be. I loved how seriously Adam took this and his descent into utter madness. This is a great ensemble piece that I could see being really popular with regional theatres. It's just the kind of play that communities all over the country could relate to.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Chechens

What a shocking and moving piece of theatre. I was on the edge of my seat from the start. Smith weaves a compelling work of fiction about a very real piece of current events. It's deplorable to hear about what the government of Chechnya does to gay men and this play does a great job at putting faces to the families that are going through these atrocities. This is a really strong ensemble piece with great roles for women in particular. I'd love to see this suspenseful piece of political theatre produced.

Such a moving piece of theatre. Vicky is a wonderfully written and flawed character. She's a character with unhealed trauma that looks for help in an online world that might not be equipped to aid her. I loved how the the real life and online worlds of this play are depicted. I could see lighting and sound designers having a blast with creating those worlds. This play tackles sexual assault in such a unique and nuanced ways. The conversation going on in this play is one that needs to be had all over. Produce this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: Horse Boy

Maddie is brilliant when it comes to capturing the way young people talk. The dialogue felt so authentic. Even when the characters are at a loss for words, the lines feel perfectly crafted. This is a play about things like race, gender and class in the world of competitive horse riding. At its heart, this is a play about three people that are so passionate about one particular thing. This play could have been about anything and the passion these young people would still be moving. The fact that it's about horses makes it all the more compelling.

  • Shaun Leisher: Snowbirds

I really adored this play. A play about chosen family and what community really means. Holmes beautifully captures a sub-culture here. People who live non-traditional lives but still deal with the same stresses of everyone else. Tom and Joan are the perfect characters to introduce us into this world of warehouse workers. It's a sad realization that fully retiring is just not possible for some people. I hope this play gets produced soon. A wonderful ensemble piece that gives all actors a chance to shine.
