  • Emily Hageman: Every Creeping Thing

Pure delight. I read this play out loud all by myself and it was one of the most fun scripts I've read. There is humor on every single page and the jokes are spot on, but more than that, it's a deeply thoughtful piece and an excellent satire. I look forward to reading more from Beardsley!

  • Emily Hageman: Three Triple Six Four Oh Five Three

A remarkable piece. An unflinching, truthful, and incredibly honest play. Gonzalez is such a powerful writer because he doesn't sensor himself--every emotion that he has, every incredibly felt piece of empathy he can exert for his characters falls onto the page. This is a perfect case study of that. If you want to read work from a playwright who loves and deeply cares for people, read Gonzalez. He is doing beautiful, noble work here.

  • Emily Hageman: FAWZIE: A HOTEL CHAMBERMAID MONOLOGUE

A powerful, powerful play. This is so much more than a monologue, this is a movement. Wyndham goes beyond just excellent writing here, far beyond just wonderful character--this is a call to action, and I'm ticked. This play would have me on my feet, clapping as loudly as I can. Wyndham has done it again, and I have a feeling he will keep doing it until the important truths he tells can no longer be ignored.

  • Emily Hageman: Tinder... Sucka

Absolutely hilarious. Craig-Galván has such a delightful, lively voice and this play would be so much fun to see. This needs to be produced now. It's genius, just proving how brilliant of a writer Craig-Galván is. Get to know her name now--I'm telling you, she's the next big thing.

  • Emily Hageman: Childish Things

This is a fascinating play. It's not quite funny, but it's not quite sad, it falls somewhere in between--and when it truly turns to Rachel, when she gets the floor to speak, Jolly has given her simply one of the best monologues I've ever read. There is so much happening in this ten minute play. It's utterly breathless, and just as beautiful as it is ugly. A true masterpiece.

  • Emily Hageman: Only Human (monologue)

An absolutely breathtaking piece. O'Grady has such a gift for storytelling and character and doing so much with so little. This feels so real--every bit of it. It's written from such a place of raw honesty and truthfulness. It is somehow simultaneously delicate and fragile while being incredibly powerful and demanding of attention. One of the best monologues I've ever read.

  • Emily Hageman: The Waiting Room

A beautiful, deeply sensitive play. This is one of the most realistic approaches I’ve ever seen to death. The memories and magical realism are all so beautiful, but what really strikes me is just how real all of it feels. There’s nothing dramatic or overwrought about it, they’re just people—they’re just friends, and it’s a part of life. There’s something strangely comforting about it. Bohannon’s delightful and vivid voice is bright in this piece, and it’s one of her strongest character pieces I’ve ever read.

  • Emily Hageman: WHEN GUYS TALK

Harrowing and fascinating. This is such a dark play, but such a real one (which is deeply unfortunate). I’ve been in the place of the customer before, and now this play is a call to action. Cerritos demands that we do better, but she does so gently and with understanding. Well written, chilling, but ultimately encouraging.

  • Emily Hageman: A Dateless Bargain with Engrossing Death

This play is so much fun. So creative and clever, just sparkling with wit and humor. This play is bound to be a crowd-pleaser wherever and whenever it's performed because it's an absolute ball. I already loved Minigan's work, but now I'm an even bigger fan.

  • Emily Hageman: Animal Kingdom (a one-minute play)

I literally love this play so much. Unproducible? I don't care, I still want to see it. It honestly got me a little emotional as I read it, and I know plenty of people who would immediately burst into tears at this lovely, sweet, perfect play. Weaver is able to pack so much heart, so much tenderness, and so much beauty in such a short period of time. What a master!
