Waiting in line is something we've all done. There are some diehards out there who will wait in line a long time to get the latest gizmo or game. For hours. Days, even. This is a really fun take on what one of these lines might look like. Great back-and-forth dialog that is simple, yet witty, clever, and oh-so-funny! I've seen this play performed twice and enjoyed it the second time just as much as I did the first.

Josh is a brilliant playwright, and this is one of my favorites from his repertoire. Such a beautiful piece!

Another fantastic short play from Joe Swenson! As I watched a live production of this play (performed by some FANTASTIC actors), I felt all of the emotions that the playwright so masterfully wanted me to feel along with the protagonist -- annoyance, bitterness, sadness, anxiety, grief, frustration, discomfort, and more. Joe is also known for unexpected endings, and this one doesn't disappoint. A beautiful and well-done play.
  • Boxed In

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing this play being performed live. Boxed In takes a closer look at a young man who believes his whole world is contained in one giant box. It's his reality. The love ultimately shown by his brother is so sweet as he beautifully addresses the issue. But it's the ending that really forces the viewer/reader to really consider both sides of the argument.

I enjoyed the tension built by the near-literal "ticking clock" in this piece. Combining that with the reader/viewer not knowing what is causing this sense of urgency (as well as the events happening in the air outside) really kept me 100% invested in where this play was going. Well done!
  • Hart Island

Wow! What a great short and eerie play! Hart Island (the location) has so many stories to tell, and Lawing does an amazing job bringing one of these to life -- literally (I couldn't resist). What a fantastic and creepy piece -- perfect for the stage, especially for an evening of spine-tingling plays!!

Another very poignant and lovely play from Joe Swenson. I had the honor of seeing this performed as a cold reading (when it won the May 2023 Crowbait Club Theatre Deathmatch), and the actors brought this piece to life like they'd rehearsed it for weeks. While that is a great testament to the abilities of the actors, it's also a great testament and compliment to the writer.

What a fun read this was! Lawing takes us on a creative and clever journey into an unlikely hostage situation. The witty banter is a delight, and the ending is a masterpiece!
  • The Weak Link in the Chain

Just like Dickens told us through Jacob Marley, Plumridge reminds us of the chains we have forged in life. Every person has their own chains, whether we like it or not. Or whether we're willing to admit it or not. He takes it a step further and reminds us that oftentimes those chains have no weak points.

Like many of Plumridge's plays, I find myself able to relate to the character in this piece in many ways (though at 6'5", I can't relate to the "little runt" part very well!)

Another great piece of work from Christopher Plumridge!

Who would dare mess with Mother Nature? Not I! These council members are bold! A funny, yet eye-opening look at a "what if" scenario that we can't help but be fully invested in as readers/viewers.
