  • The Devil Advocates
    27 Feb. 2024
I love this short. Three devils get together and begin catching each other up, and it becomes clear that one isn't satisfied with the status quo. Stan's final monologue is beautiful and sweet and a good reminder to all of us of the beauty, magic, and joy surrounding us constantly, if we just remember to look for it.
  • Venus Needs Men
    27 Feb. 2024
I've seen a lot of plays that poke loving fun at community theater, but never one this creative. A man has been snatched from earth and brought to Venus, where there are no men, to perform male roles for a small theater company that can offer a few comps but no stipend. This play is clever and hysterical. What a fabulous concept, perfectly executed.
  • Juliet Wakes Up - one-act
    26 Feb. 2024
This short is delightful. It's everything I wanted "& Juliet" to be, and I'm so happy it exists. The modern dialogue between these three teenage girls is hilarious, and there are some great opportunities for physical comedy as well. It's smart, funny, and a treat for anyone who gets to watch or act in it.
  • Dear Nate
    26 Feb. 2024
This short play is equal parts funny and poignant, and also a reminder of just how hard it is to be in your 20s. I liked that Charlie and Nate were both flawed and relatable, and that nobody came out looking like a villain. Sometimes there are no villains, but you still need to install some severe boundaries with a construction paper Christmas card. Sweet, sad, and hopeful all at once.
  • Bovine Existential
    26 Feb. 2024
These existential cows! I love it. One is very zen and one is very practical and their odd couple friendship in the face of death (whether they both acknowledge it’s a friendship or not) is adorable. These cows quote poetry. These cows contemplate the meaning of life. These cows make ten fantastic minutes of theater. I would love to watch a whole full length play about their lives before this moment and hopefully (hope is very important- Hope and avoidance) after this moment.
  • Rescue
    26 Feb. 2024
Whoa, this short drama builds in intensity right up to the end! There are few short plays that do the dramatic as well as this one. Originally written for Zoom, it could be performed equally successfully on screen or on stage. The stakes and the fear come through either way. Great work!
  • God Learns of the Death of Harambe, 2016 (colorized)
    26 Feb. 2024
I read this one for the title, and it exceeded my expectations. I mean, it includes the stage direction, "St. Michael the Archangel drags themselves into the office like a teen who got caught taking a dump on the principal's car." What is not to love here? God's spiraling self-reflection is delightful, the cameo by Jesus is A+, the Denny's reference is inspired. This short is a gift both to the actors who get to perform it and to the audiences who get to watch it.
  • The Honor of Your Presence
    26 Feb. 2024
This romantic comedy is different than most of the romantic comedies out there, in that it deals with a newly (and happily) married couple and their respective exes who are still platonically in their lives, emotionally (and, in one case, financially) there for them. Even without everybody swapping partners, there's so much drama to mine. This play does a good job showing how messy and complicated just the basic act of existing in this world can be. Plus, it's funny.
  • Modus Operandi
    25 Feb. 2024
I love a good surprise! This silly short about two slightly odd detectives and one very baffled suspect is a great skewing of the interrogation trope in cop dramas. We're constantly trying to play catch up, wondering what this person is accused of doing, why the questions are so strange, and what on earth happened to Cal Wilkington. It's a delightful ride with a great reveal and a perfect button at the end.
  • Dating in the Workplace and Other Acts of Courage
    25 Feb. 2024
This short play about meeting your grandson's almost-significant other under... unique circumstances is adorable. It's a hilarious ensemble romantic war play that's only ten minutes long. (It doesn't seem like all those descriptions should work together, but they do.) What a fun piece with hilarious dialogue and a zany, delightful premise.
