  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Adventurers Anonymous

I absolutely ADORE "You Walk Into a Tavern," so I was delighted to find out that another iteration of these beautiful characters exists. I love love love the well-rounded (or should I say perpetually balanced?) ladies of Sylvie's party and it is so cool to see five distinct voices telling their stories in their own ways. There is so much love, and hope, and self-discovery here, laced into quick-paced adventure dialogue and uplifting monologues (and one song). Chills and tears and lots of warm feelings. I hope these girls achieve their quest and find their way home. Props to Kantor!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: 'A'ohe loa i ka hana a ke aloha (Distance is Ignored by Love): A Tropical Triptych (One Act)

Maybe it wasn't a lifetime, or maybe it was. Helen will hold her memory of her night with Kaleo forever, a night that we get to see as she returns to the place they met on a different night. Bittersweet and beautiful. There is something so special about this play that takes us to Hawaii with our tourist protagonist and lets us grieve with her.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Great Hollow

This play is genius! In most ghost stories, the ghosts feel ethereal or lost. Blevins' ghost is different. She's just chillin'. And I love that for her. The vibes are immaculate. It's a really well-rounded haunting in a seaside cabin during a thunderstorm...and something about that feels safe. I love love love this play!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Of Garden Gnomes and Other Tragedies

This one act feels like the perfect spoofy fantasy for the current age. A mix of wild mythology and mundanity, Sickles has drawn me into the world of Chantelle and Felix and magical hybrid deities that eat goose souls. The quick-paced dialogue keeps you intrigued as you learn the lore of the world and the story of how Chantelle's attempt to break the spell has failed. Fantastical!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: The Name of Action

Oop! Well that's one way to take action! What a kooky little piece full of characters who will not only encourage each other but make sure that they follow their dreams. Eccentric fun!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: NO TWO SNOWFLAKES (one-act)

Government conspiracies, superhuman powers, and snow. What an interesting concept! Yancey's Veronica has such a distinct voice in her podcasts that makes you wonder if what she is saying is true. And perhaps it is. So intriguing.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: It's All About Time

Time is a powerful thing, and what we do with it is even more powerful. This play is so beautiful and real. In just 11 pages, you really fall in love with this trio of characters and the rapport they have with each other. We stan a chosen family. In the end, it doesn't matter whether their "magical" pocket watch is actually magical or not; what truly matters is the magic they can make together with the time ahead that has not yet been explored. Beautiful.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Frozen: A Monologue

    This one hit deep.
I too, have always considered the question of what to do if time froze, but Cole's character has a very interesting take.
Very introspective, almost sad and still quirky at the same time. I love it.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Passion Therapy

Oh my, this is a fun comedy. The interplay between Dr. Wilkinson's exasperation and the couple's stubborn properness and sudden passion is so funny. The vibes are so vivid and this piece would be a delight onstage.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: The Parting Glass

Aw! Someone please get me a tissue to wipe away these tears!
In this touching little drama, Dzubak's characters remind us that the ones we lose are never truly gone. They remain in the memories and the tender moments, our favorite songs.
    Beautiful.
