  • Brent Alles: Max's Room

An often raw but always moving account of dealing with grief and tragedy. I really admired the multifaceted approach that is taken to examine this couple and their struggle with moving on... if they can. This is going to be a valuable piece of any 10-minute festival that makes it part of their lineup. Great parts for two actors, and it's going to hold people's attention for long after they finish reading and viewing it.

  • Brent Alles: MY WAY, YOUR WAY AND THE HIGHWAY

A sweet little slice of life about doing things your own way. Heartening!

  • Brent Alles: A Steamboat Willie Gravestone

A pretty artful 10-minute here as it maintains its darkly comedic twist throughout and yet still finds time for humanity. Not every piece can examine the foibles of intellectual property at the same time as raw, unimaginable grief. Well done work by Gibbs.

  • Brent Alles: Top Shelf of My Fridge, 2 AM

I always wondered what happened when I closed the door and that little light went off. Thanks for shedding your own light on the matter, Cern. Anyway, a very funny piece that should be a lot of fun to see staged. It all builds up to a very funny payoff indeed. Check this one out when you have a chance... don't let it become expired.

  • Brent Alles: TOUGH LUCK - A MONOLOGUE

A raw and surprising monologue. This is going to be great for performers, and audiences should be suitably stunned at the implications. Excellent work!

  • Brent Alles: Just An Old-Fashioned Love Song

A charming tale well told, and some surprising connections to our own nostalgia. An ending that stings a bit, but then again, don't they often? PMW brings us a delightful scene here that audiences of all ages can enjoy.

  • Brent Alles: Erstwhile or The Birth of an Old Soul

Right off the bat, the setting was just fascinating for me, and then the rest of the play followed suit. You have two very interesting characters sharing their stories with each other. As things are slowly revealed, you get to revel in the full story, and yet at the end, was it real? Was it dreamed? That's what I love about this ten-minute; the ultimate meaning is up for grabs. Yet, still very human as we get to spend time with Letty and Mari. Extremely enjoyable. Should make for great staging.

  • Brent Alles: 37 Origami Bees

Georgia Zanthopoulou pulls up a remarkable moment of trauma in a short piece. One is left to wonder the results and most of those wonderings don't lead to good places. A powerful interpretation of the theme and title here.

  • Brent Alles: Somewhere on Santa Monica

I loved this. A reminder of what is lost when we focus on our damn tech and not the people in front of us. In several memorable encounters, Bluestein-Lyons shows you just how distinct and varied those people can be. Wonderful characters throughout. The "connective tissue" is enjoyable. The ending, pitch perfect. An intriguing journey through LA that shines a light on thriving and surviving through these oft troubled times. Take the walk with these characters when you have the chance.

  • Brent Alles: The Prime Cut

Wonderfully insightful and relevant for these times and the often f***ed-up body pressures we put on people (now with more wrinkles than ever!). That Aly makes me laugh throughout the underlying seriousness of this is her gift. An excellent message that doesn't hit you over the head and leaves you with thoughts at the end. An excellent short play.
