  • James Binz: Hemoglobin and Chlorophyll: A Magical Swamp Thing Christmas

The absurdity and paranoia in the current political scene is well captured here. Jennifer O'Grady has an ear for this character's speech patterns and the premise is sturdy enough for our times. There is, of course, that strong smell of satire throughout and we can see and sense the menace of a new world.

  • James Binz: Drummer Boy

I love a piece where I feel like I should have had this premise. Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend remixes the song and story with modern sensibilities and the laugh riot ensues. Both Mary and Joseph insisting that "But there was no room at the inn!" is a hilarious line! And that's just one of many. PlayZoomers must have had a field day with this. Brava!

  • James Binz: Twelve Books

Tender is certainly the feeling that comes over one while reading this. The idea of the young and older characters existing in another time and space is fascinating and never faltered. The dialogue was delightful and the premise hits us all. Anyone who has ever loved a book or a series of books knows the feeling of wanting to pass along the treasure to your children. Mine was the Douglas Adams books passed along to my son.

  • James Binz: Rockaway Park 2012

Nice short experimental piece with true to life characters and a great premise. Waiting for government help after a devastating event and having to make decisions about the future and the present in extreme moments make this 10 minute a wonderful play to read and to see. Nicely done.

  • James Binz: The Female Gaze

Certainly a challenge for any male to read - lots of twisty mythology to work through. Very well written, though. The characters are delightful and the premise is top notch. The stage effects would be amazing to see. Good stuff!

  • James Binz: Daydream

A Tale for our times. How many Thanksgiving dishes have been scrubbed and lovingly pawed over in an attempt to avoid the unwanted conversation in the other room. The fantasy characters are hilarious and the real characters are a true slice of life. A great premise very well done.

  • James Binz: The Baked Alaska Incident

Oh my, what a fun time! Great characters, a hugely comic premise and crackling dialogue! There are lots of laughs, amazing moments of weird humor and a satisfying and terrifying ending. Brava!

  • James Binz: Dad Gum It

Such a fun little piece. Jean Ciampi puts three characters into a situation and twists and turns her way to a surprise ending. Funny business and comic dialogue throughout. This is a terrific 10 minute and would be hilarious on stage.

  • James Binz: The Girl in the Wall

Monologues seem to rarely tell a real story, this one certainly accomplishes the challenge. The Appalachian Woman tells her life story with motivation and change. Great piece to see on stage! Nicely written!

  • James Binz: The Ultimate Christmas Question

I hate Hallmark Christmas movies and I often have an issue with "classic" Christmas films. I loved the give and take between the two characters as they push their personal cinematic agendas. Absolutely loved the ending! I can almost hear an audience taking sides on each film. What a great idea!
