  • James Binz: When Harry Hated Sally

This was a delight to read and would be even better staged. Stephen Pryor has assembled a wonderful two hander with great characters and a frenetic pace. Fairy tales have never been so abused and so wonderful. Great ending, too! Nicely done!

  • James Binz: Pinning. Punning. Pining.

Masterful wordplay. This is a fun little piece that would work very well on stage. The pacing is good and the dialogue is true. These are wonderful characters that are a joy to meet and watch. Always nice to see the slow simmer of potential romance. Brava

  • James Binz: Hit and Match

Very funny. Michael Hagins has a way with comedy. The farcical world of shooters and online dating have rarely been so well put together. These characters have terrific motivations and voices and the pace feels just right. I would love to see this on stage. Worthy of production to be sure!

  • James Binz: Lingerie Shop

Instead of six characters in search of an author - Bryan Colley presents us with six characters in search of a way out of a script that controls their every movement and dialogue. Frenetic pace and monologues spoken as quickly as humanly possible keep the farce element in chaotic staging. Feminism is a big topic here, but something of the male playwright privilege is here, too. It's often a struggle to bring the dream world of men to the stage without being a perv. This is well done.

  • James Binz: The Heath

My goodness. So many feels. So many turns. Lauren Gunderson creates, no re-creates, a world of sadness and glory and life. What a wonderful theatrical experience! A new format, a new form and a new, but many told, tale. Extraordinary. Brava!

Maggie Kearnan delivers terrific dialogue with good pace and style. A mother daughter duet with a big twist, this slice of life is heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. The ending is bittersweet and very theatrical. Yummy.

  • James Binz: Side Dish

A fast paced, bouncy, happy cooking show with a very dark and dangerous side dish. If revenge is best served cold - this revenge is a steaming spoonful of gag inducing anger. Poor Ethel indeed. High comedy and hi jinks! Well done.

  • James Binz: Tourist Trap (Short)

A fascinating study of three women. Friends and companions, they make a voyage through the Big City looking for the important things. We see cultural differences, where we are introduced to stinky tofu and white rice cooked on the brown rice setting. These women also display universal truths and face universal problems and dreams. Very nicely written and paced. This needs production!!!

  • James Binz: Neighborly Chat (Ten Minute)

Reading this in 2024 brings back all the memories of our fear and concern and how we took such steps to avoid each other and the virus. For some luck ones of us, we had family to live with and that kept the loneliness wolf away. But, I can imagine other people, especially those with neuro-divergence and issues, who must have had the most excruciatingly difficult time surviving day to day. Paul Donnelly has provided a snapshot of this experience that rings true, Well done!

  • James Binz: The Sun, Like, Nothing

Another fine Brent Alles piece to enjoy and ponder. Reading, understanding and, God forbid appreciating Shakespeare sonnets is quite a challenging goal for a self absorbed high school student, but I bet there are a few who privately accept the challenge. This piece evoked the feeling we all have when we grudgingly study the sonnets and slowly acknowledge the beauty and worth in each one. Brent Alles has illustrated a universal truth for us all. Nice!
