  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: EXPRESSION OF REGRET

Thank you, Judy Chu! And thank you Christine Toy Johnson for writing such a moving play that lets us have an experience of the hatred and racism Chinese-Americans have lived through and shows us the oppression that was (and is) fought (inside and out). Beyond that, it shows the triumph of survival. This play is complex in its structure in three times and places and characters and braids itself together to strengthen each story as a good braid does. Well done! May it have a long and well-produced life!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: My Aim is True

Beautiful work by Lucy Wang! She manages to do so much in such a short play. I got vivid scenes from Anna Mae's life and incredible tension in the moments of the play as the rising action works to keep me at the edge of my seat. This is so wonderfully written! And it's also such a timely, relevant and necessary play! I hope it is produced often!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Fathers

Fathers is a wonderfully theatrical true story that uses the stage to show the many ways in which we are transformed by our experiences and how we can use them to create both negative and positive narratives. The roles are fantastic for both players, and this is a play I would love to see produced - a real game-changer! Beautifully written! Read it and produce it! An easily produced play for 2 actors with a brilliant pov!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Photos with my Rapist: A Two-Minute Monologue

I like the two minute version almost as much as the one minute version. The ending still packs a punch! And it's still surprising. Wonderfully written, totally relatable.

So true! I have a photo of me with my rapist on my bookshelf right now! We're dancing at a cousin's wedding! This is great because it makes people stop and think - hey, this happens. A lot! So relatable!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Gray Play

Devastating. I live near Kingsbridge - the one in the Bronx - even if I don't actually live in the Bronx. There is a drawbridge to get there - I've seen it open. I've sat in the traffic when it opens and boats pass beneath it. Only in summer though. The ocean comes up on the tides and fills the river (the Harlem river). I love a play that reminds me of my own sense of sadness, a play that ends with a question and before that a kind of

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Grown-Ass Louis

I feel just like Grown-Ass Louis all the time. My mother died when I was young, and it's unbearable to go on living further and further away from her death every moment of every day. And Grown-Ass Louis feels the same way as far as I can tell in this funny, mordant play - I don't think I've ever used that word before. It means biting and makes me think of Grown-Ass Louis's mother and her ass-cheek. I have to say I really like this play!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Endlings

I love this play, and the artistry that Song invests in it! I find this play in conversation with the forces that push me toward and propel me away from the brick wall that I keep throwing myself against called American Theatre. Theatrical, meta, moving and stunning on so many levels, the performance at NYTW will stay with me forever. Thank you for such an expansive, thrilling piece!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: THE APPOINTMENT

Very funny and a super slice of life that cuts into the heart of this couple and their marriage. It's very relatable! And I love that Carnes really creates the world onstage and simultaneously brings the backstory to life. Well done!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Never Again

Wonderful and full of surprises that feel earned. It would be awesome to see onstage! A smart and savvy play for all ages!
