This play needs to be part of part of the college/university theatre canon. It's a play that will stay with audiences long after they see it. One of the best uses of non-linear storytelling I've ever read in a play. Its a play that addresses rape culture head on and leaves you with no easy answers, which is what great theatre is supposed to do.

  • Shaun Leisher: Silueta by Diana Burbano, Tom Shelton and Chris Shelton

An important play for the age of #MeToo. A play that introduces people to the genius of Ana Mendieta, asks questions about her death and the role Carl Andre played and an exploration of the connection between artist and audience. A feast of a play for adventurous actors, designers and directors.

  • Shaun Leisher: Ripe Frenzy

This is a brilliant play that needs to be done everywhere especially in the political climate we find ourselves in. The issue of high school mass shooting is explored through a unique and critical perspective as we try and make sense of why these incidents occur and what happens to the loved ones of the victims and the perpetrators that are left to pick up the pieces. Barclay uses a highly theatrical medium to full effect and forces humanity to sit together and face ugly truths.

I love the simple poetic nature of Svich's dialogue. These characters don't always say much but their connections with each other and their current situations are so clear. Also that last moment will drive audience to sobs. Though much more expressionistic than other plays about blue collar communities, this piece deserves to be alongside Dominique Morriseau's Skeleton Crew and Lynn Nottage's Sweat as plays that truly speak to the heart of this nation today.

  • Shaun Leisher: For Annie

Really didn't know what exactly to expect from this play but by the end I had known I read something really special. By playing with theatrical forms, the playwright has written a piece that touches an important topic without being preachy. This play has heart for days. This should be done at every college and high school.

  • Shaun Leisher: Clearing

A superb play about workplaces that have a culture of their own and how different people embrace or pull away from that culture. A hysterical play that is so honest and a showcase for five female actors.

  • Shaun Leisher: Follow Me Through the Gates

Got a chance to see a performance of this play at last year's Philly Fringe Fest with a bunch of kids and their parents. It was amazing!!! It's a play that gets on a child's level but doesn't speak down to them. It lets kids interact in unique ways and be themselves. Stephanie Walters has expertly crafted a play full of whimsy and fun but also delves into universal issues like identity and family.

Reading this pitch black comedy was an absolute delight while also making me look hard at a huge question we face today. How do we keep children safe in a terrible world while also guarding their innocence? This play needs to be produced for the discussions that will ensue.

  • Shaun Leisher: we, the invisibles

I'm dying to see this play done. Such a beautiful work of documentary theatre that looks at a true life event that also gives voice to so many invisible members of our society who desperately need to be heard from.

  • Shaun Leisher: Black Escalade

This play's brilliance stems from its simple premise of 2 characters that want something from each other. From there, Caitlyn Saylor Stephens takes us on an exploration of power, gender, capitalism and fame/infamy in the digital age all through these under-represented voices. This play is asking the questions that we need to be asking on our stages and its bound to excite any actor, director or designer that reads it.
