  • Shaun Leisher: oranges

A play that could be about the very near future. A play about an epic event that explores such an intimate moment. Even at the end of the world, people will get drunk with the people they love. This would be so much fun to see produced. There is a lot here for actors, directors and designers to work with. I couldn't help but have a big smile on my face as I got to the end of this play. Even at the end one has to hold on to hope.

  • Shaun Leisher: A Language All Our Own

I really loved this short play. It's a play full of longing. A play about two women who seem to be constantly kept apart by an oppresive society. I loved the choice to set it at the turn of the twentieth century and at a seemingly un-romantic place like a public library. But maybe the library is the most romantic place for these women who only have words (written and spoken) to share their true feelings. At the start, things look bleak for these two but by the end it's not to feel hopeful for them.

  • Shaun Leisher: this is not the reunion

A play about remembering childhood and how the past impacts our present. I loved what this play has to say about the trickiness of adult friendships. These five women all have full lives but they are able to make time for each other to remember good times at camp. Loved that this play explores the specificity of camp friendships. This play also works really well as a horror piece. Maddie does a great job at establishing the rules of this world and how the characters experience the ghosts. Produce, please.

  • Shaun Leisher: FEAST.

What a unique take on the Beowulf legend. A play that looks at all of our complicity in the rist of authoritarianism. If you aren't inspired to stand up and fight back after reading this play then I don't know if you are awake at all. My heart breaks for Grendel's mother as she recounts the pain she has had to endure at the hands of the "strong man." Our world is full of strong men that take and take and take. This play is a call to action that I can't wait to experience.

  • Shaun Leisher: small town icons

A really strong play about dealing with trauma and making amends. No one in this play is all good. All of these women have flaws and are complicated characters. I need to see this play produced with a full set and I need to see what a design team can do with the last couple of pages. Loved how the Grovers Corner of Our Town represents this utopia that Sabrina longs for. A perfect town where she can start over and live her life proudly. Produce this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: MINOTAUR

This play is a feast for actors, directors and designers. Caridad Svich is the closest thing our generation has to Shakespear. I loved how poetic the dialogue that fills this play is. I loved the lack of stage directions and how it gives permission for endless ways to interpret the script. The Minotaur was an enigma that I thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve. This piece also has some pretty insightful things to say about capitalism and empire that I will keep thinking about. Someone produce this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: White Walls

A wonderfully creepy play with some great scares and gross-out moments. Loved how Borak plays with tone in this play. This place is a mystery and this play gives us just enough to follow without revealing too much. Loved the bond between these three characters as they try to stop forgetting things about their life. Loved how they all help each other to remember. Aiden is a great character to introduce us to this world that Alexis and William have lived in longer. Can't wait to see this produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: Hooded or Being Black for Dummies

What a brilliant play. Loved the way that reality is played with in this play. Loved the use of projections throughout this piece. A play about who gets to own Blackness. Loved the dynamic between Marquis and Tru. At first, adversaries that learn to like each other throughout the play. The use of the laughter sign is absolutely genius and I'd love to experience this play with an audience and see how they react to the sign. Loved how this play made me question reality. I hope to see it produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: HAPPY HOUR :)

A hilarious look at office culture and how forced happiness can be draining. I loved all these characters. Marinello does a good job of giving us a peek into their personal lives as they they struggle through the happy hour. Definitely connected with the superficial morale boosting and what it's like to work with people that take their job a little too seriously. This is a fun and physical play that must be a blast for actors.

  • Shaun Leisher: MATERNAL

I definitely did not see the ending of this play coming. A short play that explores what it's like to keep up appearances for one's family. A short play about mothers and daughters and all the baggage that can come with that relationship. Loved how this short play explores queerness with such honesty even when things go batshit crazy.
