I always love a piece I can see in my mind as I read and that was definitely the case here. Not only could I see Edie in the bar discussing a certain type of guy but I could see the guy too. Its a piece that presents the audience with not only a powerful and insightful speech about how to deal with certain people but it offers the audience to consider how they would address such an issue or if they've experienced anything similar. That relatability, power and vivid imagery makes this a great monologue.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Cleveland Waits

Wow! This play makes you feel like no one should get involved in theatre, but in a brilliant way! Greg has created a dark, yet humourous and very relatable piece for anyone who has ever been involved with theatre. You feel like you are never going to get your chance, every time the phone rings or an email comes in it's another hope dashed but, despite the bleakness of the situation Greg frames it in such a way that the audience is dying to know if Mikey will get his big break! Great characters offered for a fabulous piece!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Coming Back To Life

Just because a person is in their 'later years' doesn't mean life (and the fun that goes with it) stops! That's the wonderfully constructed lesson that Bruce has constructed with this piece. Morris has suffered the loss of two wives and is now moving into a new assisted living facility, which he's not thrilled about. But, through the lessons of Jack he realises he has a lot more life to live! It's a piece that creates a wonderful opportunity for older performers to play some truly wonderful roles with brilliantly witty dialogue!

So, I love the way Don has taken a sometimes predictable scenario and provided a wonderfully timed twist! There are elements within the piece that are hard to swallow (e.g. the feelings of certain people towards certain races/sexualities/political views) but the piece has been wonderfully interlaced with what I believe to be a key moral about loving your children, no matter what. It's a lovely snapshot of this particular family dynamic but, if the writer was so inclined, that Thanksgiving dinner would make a great one-act or full-length piece. I've no doubt Don would do it justice!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Black River: A Love Story

Theatre, at its heart for me is story telling and that is what this play is, a story that draws you in with characters you NEED to know what happens to. As the characters guide you through their stories you can see it in your minds eye as they invite you to be part of their world and the events take place. Its sure to have an audience on the edge of their eat right until the last line. That's what it did for me and I won't share more because its a play you need to experience.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Better Than Normal

AWWWWWW! I never thought of Halloween as a cute and romantic holiday but Hannah has made it just that. As the audience, we are privileged to be observers of the 'unusual' but wonderfully funny and lovely relationship between Alex and Coquelicot (fabulous name by the way!) We, as humans, often think we're a little weird and worry about how that impacts on other people but the way these two confidently and wonderfully discuss their interesting quirks is proof that it doesn't matter how weird you are, as long as you find the right weirdo to be with! Utterly adorable!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Blink, And Your Ticket Is Worthless, a monologue

The world of submissions has always been a complicated one and that is what Sam has captured so beautifully here. I could see it in my minds eye as this producer smiles down at the audience and offers his words where slowly they realise exactly what the playwrights have been through to get to this point. I could feel myself getting frustrated by the 'casual' way some of the lines are remarked, which only shows how relatable this piece is. It is a brilliant piece and as a performance would definitely open audiences eyes to the struggles of the creative.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: BLAME IT ON BARBIE, a four-minute comedy for two women

Oh this rings so many bells for me as a creative! The 'tarnished' view that certain subjects have can do so much damage to a person but here Arianna has done brilliantly by making Marie a simply fabulous character by the end. Its a truth universally acknowledged that parents generally want the best for their children and sometimes that truth isn't what you first expected and isn't a 'traditional truth'. That's the wonderful moral that the writer has left the audience with here, as well as some wonderful laughing moments that will see smiles long after the curtain falls.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Because I Said So

Saying 'no' when some children are being given everything is always a hard job for a parent but Dana not only creates moments of humour in which this rattled mother tries to explain to her son why he does not need this toy, but it also forces the audience to think long and hard about the society we are raising children in. Having every desire immediately granted is dangerous and allowing kids to think that certain deadly items are harmless is even more so. Its a brilliantly socially aware piece that could make for a great audition. Funny, yet powerful!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: All Thumbs

A brilliantly funny and fast paced back and forth centred around the idea of reviews, something a lot of people dread and this applicant is struggling with. It offers strong roles for both older and younger actors alike and is sure to have audiences giggling from very early on. I always admire a piece that offers pace and humour in equal measures and this is a perfect example of that. Be sure to give it the opportunity to shine in front of an audience, because I guarantee it will.
