  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: A Playwright Asks... "What If?" PART THREE

"You are a writer!", four words were never truer than they are of Sam! I have come into the 'Playwright Asks' series to Part Three but I didn't feel like I was lost (the way you can if you come into a series part way) because Sam takes a scenario that will resonate with a LOT of creatives, asked the questions, had the difficult conversations and come out the other side. As a writer, I couldn't help but think 'oh my god, I've asked those questions' and that is because Sam has created something real, because Sam is a writer!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: I Miss the Stars

Sadly for our society, there are gross miscarriages of justice that happen every day. Innocent people go to prison and sacrifice their lives for crimes there is no actual proof of. The anger behind that level of injustice is what Deb invoked in me as I read this hard-hitting monologue. The piece gives a golden opportunity for a peformer not only to be able to perform an emotionally complex character but also to educate the audience and force them to face the injustice, just like the character has had to do. Well done Deb!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: SO GAY

A stunningly powerful piece that I believe could easily stand as an informative warning in schools to students and teachers alike. With there being so much violence in the world people do forget that words have an impact, especially on the young mind and that is what Deb has captured and allowed her audience to be a part of. Theatre, as well as being a means of entertainment, for me is always at its best when its a means of informing and provoking thought. Deb has done that to a high quality. Schools, I recommend you consider this piece!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Lady Business (from the THE WRINKLE RANCH AND OTHER PLAYS ABOUT GROWING OLD collection)

I absolutely adored this piece! There aren't really many other words I can use but I will try. Deb has created characters that wonderfully emulate the stages women go through in their lives and the back and forth of their interactions work flawlessly! Its a perfect opportunity for performers of all ages to gather and emulate the journey of life in a funny and interesting way. As previously said, its met the challenge but more than that its met it in a brilliantly unique way.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: NOH More Drama: A Children’s Origin Play Based on Japanese Myth

A cleverly presented tale with a moral of 'you don't know you'll miss something until its gone'! That is what Deb has created here. The story itself will captivate but taking that into account with the way the dialogue is formatted and the physical elements of the performance that go with it, it could easily be a wonderful example of physical spectacle!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: FIVE

I reached the end of this piece utterly gobsmacked! I was lured in by the narrator of this tale as she talks about the hardships of being a mother to a large family and wanting to be attractive to her husband. Deb has skilfully designed and created the character for the audience to feel for her, and you do, until you realise the truth of the matter! It is the truth that reveals the horror and it is the truth that will leave the audience, as I was, lost for words!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Bedtime Story

Deb has thrown me all over the place emotionally in this piece. You are drawn into the sweet and loving snapshot of 'father and son - a story at bedtime' and then its slowly twisted into something that could be so dark. Then, just as you are on the edge of thinking this is a dark and sordid tale, Deb offers you a moral/warning about the influence of technology in our lives. In six pages, it speaks VOLUMES!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: My FART Score

I have no shame in saying I am giggling away! There is something about bodily functions which we find hilarious as children and embarrassing as adults. Deb has wonderfully captured a middle ground as this doctor explains his involvement in some medical testing. I won't say any more than that but if you are looking for something that will leave a lingering smile and giggling so much it hurt (both are certainly true of me) then make sure you give this monologue a read! Its a truly...unique tale!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: This is My Country

A fascinating social commentary with a roller coaster of emotions! That's what Deb has created here! In a world where we see so much hate and bigotry, it was so refreshing to see the story go the other way and result in a something good. Its a piece that can guide, educate and invoke an emotional response, all in 4 pages! My heartiest congratulations Deb!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: A Lovely Day for a Boating Trip (and to kill your spouse)

A wonderful riotous comedy adventure with more twits and turns than you could shake a stick at! That is what Lindsey has created her as we watch Graham and Gloria enjoying a pleasant boat ride as a married couple, or so we think. I won't say too much more as I think this play HAS to be read with a fresh set of eyes, and you should most definitely read it. It gives a golden performance opportunity for two actors with wonderful back and forth dialogue and a story that will keep the audience guessing! Just fabulous!
