Such a great play and so marvelously theatrical! Loved it!

Moving monologue play about a groundbreaking female artist of color. Johnson places us inside Annie's mind, so that we can feel her anxiety and excitement as she tries to move forward with her life and her art despite the boundaries of racism. Would love to see this on stage.
  • Being Wendy Wasserstein (formerly The Wendy Chronicles)

I love the expansion of Curry's shorter Wasserstein monologue into this one-woman play with a terrific role for a female actor. Wasserstein was a force, and this piece captures her personality and complexity so well--Curry keeps us listening to everything Wendy has to say, in a play that feels intimate and personal. Would make a terrific production.

Terrific, theatrical play about a forgotten woman and a famous one. I would love to see this staged.

In just a few pages Weaver’s delicate, concise play says so much about societal assumptions that celebrities' lives are always happy, and how it's all too easy for many of us to compare our lives to theirs and come up short. It’s also a lovely and moving story about two sisters, one of whom is struggling to add meaning to her life. Would be terrific on stage and great for all audiences.
  • The Invention of Margaret E. Knight
    22 Dec. 2019
A very powerful, haunting, theatrical play about a real woman inventor, with a wonderfully strong female lead and terrific, flexible ensemble. Hageman’s plays are always so truthful, with typically brilliant dialogue and great skill in using the stage to tell emotionally engaging stories about things that matter. This play could be performed by adults or teens. Produce it!

Amazing monologue--funny and chilling and so, so powerful!
  • GRANNY LOLA: A MONOLOGUE
    22 Dec. 2019
I love strong roles for senior actors and I also love Asher Wyndham's monologues so this is a perfect combo. Wyndham excels at giving voice to characters we don't normally get to hear, and in making us think hard about what they have to say. This would be so great in a festival!

Zaffarano perfectly nails the intergenerational politics and other family dynamics between a mom and her son, in a play that at once feels truthful and ominous in its political implications--with great dialogue to boot!
