  • Sharai Bohannon: Little Perfect You

Turnage is onto something with this play. Not just because Purity Balls are archaic and creepy, or because we need more female and non-binary roles, or because we need more plays about brilliant girls who march to the beat of their own drummer, but because we need all of the above and then some.

  • Sharai Bohannon: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

I am in love with Valerie!! We need more of these types of badass ladies in all forms of media (especially at this particular moment in time) and I know I would LOVE to see this produced immediately. Viva La Valerie!

  • Sharai Bohannon: The Three Sisters of Weehawken

I love this play so much!! It's funny, odd, touching, and incredibly unpredictable. I'm looking forward to reading more of Laufer's work. Someone please produce this play!!

  • Sharai Bohannon: My Body

Yes a million times!! This is a very smart take on inequality and I want to see it produced in festivals everywhere. I love that Bublitz turns the table on gender causing us to feel empathy for the guy but also a complicated sense of almost solidarity with the woman representing the patriarchy in this piece. This might be the most important 10-minute play I've read in years.

  • Sharai Bohannon: IN TRAINING

Carnes does it again! Unique staging, metaphors and imagery that sparks the imagination, and fun characters in a weird situation. I think this would be almost as much fun to direct as it would be to see it. I also hope this piece inspires more of us to play in the dark on stage.

  • Sharai Bohannon: The Violet Sisters

This is a masterclass in writing for the stage. This is also the perfect two-hander for two ladies seeking something they can both sink their teeth into. I'm looking forward to reading more of Femia's work but I'm not looking forward the emotional mess I'll be if all of them are at this level.

  • Sharai Bohannon: Shake It, Baby: A One-Minute Play

This is by far the quickest in Henry's series and somehow maybe has the most layers as well. It made me think of Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf she encounters. Only this time Little Red isn't waiting for a woodman's to save her-she's taking care of this one herself.

  • Sharai Bohannon: Manticore!: A One-Minute Play

Another fun foray into this familiar workplaces full of familiar sexual harassers, but where women are allowed to shut it down in the most final of ways. Why is no one doing anything with Henry's series of one-minute feminist/horror/#metoo plays is the possibly the most important question on NPX? Why?

  • Sharai Bohannon: Curves (a monologue)

This strikes so many of the right notes! We need more monologues geared towards self-acceptance and and an understanding that all bodies, and people, are different and worthy! It's also a really funny moment in this woman's life that I understand all too well!

  • Sharai Bohannon: A Case of Kompromat

I really dig this one. It's moody, unpredictable, effortlessly feminist, and (in true spy fashion) never gives too much away about any of the players involved. Andrea is hands down one of the most intriguing protagonists I've seen in a very long time and this world that Strange drops us into oozes danger and mistrust. I'd love to see this produced and I think it would be a fun show for a set designer to sink their teeth into.
