  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: This is Government

I love this play. Three congressional interns are trapped in their congressman's office due to a bomb threat, and what follows is a study on American politics, idealism, desperation, and whether or not one person has the ability to make a difference. I absolutely adored it. The dialogue is sharp and funny and SMART, and the play gives the audience a lot to think about. Plus, with a cast of 4 and the action taking place almost entirely in one location, it would be an easy play to stage - and it should be staged often.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN FRANCE

This is too much fun: A series of shorts woven together around and inspired by the 12 things listed in the song, "The 12 Days of Christmas." It's so theatrical, with themes and characters who resurface, and I love how it gives the actors opportunities to play multiple parts - and the audience opportunities to watch the actors tackle a variety of roles. There are some beautiful monologues in here which can stand alone in their own right as well. What a wonderful piece to stage during the holidays!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Court of Public Opinion

This play grapples with truth and justice and their definitions and throws in some relationship drama for good measure. The audience has so much to think about, even among the jokes as the three characters ping pong back and forth. Some of the points made by the characters are uncomfortable, but that's the point. I especially enjoyed the monologues between scenes, which were beautifully written and provided insight into each character. With three characters, one set, and a boatload of topical issues, this would be an easy yet powerful play for a theater company to stage.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Pie 2 - A Bigger Slice of Pie

The puns and the dad jokes come fast and furious in this sequel to (A Day in) The Life of Pie. Any play with a comma joke is a play for me. This silly noir spoof is a lot of fun - and hard to read without singing. I can't wait to see what PI Joe Pie gets up to next.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Testament of the Body (Full length)

A writer past his prime hires a male escort in this engaging two hander, and the night goes anywhere except where you'd expect it to. I was hooked from the awkward prattling Beck engages in when Jumper shows up, and I loved watching it all unfold as they slowly reveal more and more to each other. With a cast of two, a simple set, and a compelling story, this would be an easy one for any theater company to stage - and they all should.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: MAN OR MOUSE

The dialogue in this play is delicious. I can't praise it enough. A man is moving himself and his son to New Zealand to escape the horrors the US has devolved into, and his family tries to convince him not to go. This play touches on so many broken aspects of this country: gun control, treatment of veterans, divisive politics, etc, but despite the heavy topics, it's funny. It's hilarious. This play reminds us that feeling anguish is better than feeling nothing, and that everyone can do something - however small - to make things better.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Crisis Exercise

This country is messing up its children. This devastating short follows three boys through years of lockdown drills as they grow into awareness and then numbness at what the drill are for. What a perfect play addressing gun violence in America. Hard but necessary theater.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Recommendation

What I love about this short is you're not entirely certain whose story is true - or if either of them are, completely. The twists and surprises keep you racing to catch up as you try to figure out where this whole thing is going and who is right - philosophically or otherwise. I've been thinking about this play all day.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Female Gaze

There are so many lines I love in this short play about how women are punished no matter what they do. Using Greek mythology to explore how, as the Barbie movie states, it is literally impossible to be a woman is genius. The title is perfection for a play centering Medusa, and I want a sequel about the island commune. Fantastic.
