This short play asks how much one person can do to combat what humanity is doing to the planet- and how much one person SHOULD do. It’s incredibly layered and complex (especially for a ten minute play!) and will leave the audience thinking about and wrestling with hard, important, urgent questions. This is is the kind of theater that is necessary for our moment in time.

This short play does a wonderful job laying out the complexities of fracking in America in an easy to follow way, and why people agree to allow fracking on their land, even when they can see the harm it does. It’s engaging and frustrating and sad and alarming all at once. A great piece!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Un Hombre: A Golem Story

This has been in my reading list for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally got to it. A beautiful golem story (how's that for a description?!) about love and loss and permanence vs transience. I really enjoyed how it all tied together (and in three languages, too!). A lovely, powerful play with three great roles for actors - including a young actor.

This monologue is beautiful and gets into the humanity of the story of Abraham and Isaac in a way that the Bible sure doesn't. I'm a big fan of plays that are Bible story adaptations, and this is one of the best ones I've read.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Kubrickian

I saw a portion of this play in Bramble Theatre's Festival of Unfinished Work, and I had to come to NPX to see how it ended. This play is so many things: dystopian, hilarious, tragic, passionate - Chris is so passionate about Stanley Kubrick that he almost Tom Sawyer'd me into watching a Kubrick film. There is so much for actors to mine in this. In a dialogue-driven medium, the long stretch without any speaking in this play is impressive - and somehow remains engaging. A great play.

Oh man. It was funny and then it got creepy and then it got scary - and it wasn't a very long play! What a masterclass. Erin Moughon knows how to tell a story that gets you.

This hit the spot. What a fabulous, absurd fever dream of a short play.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: PLEASE LAUGH

So funny and so uncomfortable. This parody of a late night show with a host who behaves badly and is indulged every step of the way will make you laugh and cringe. It's a great commentary on fame and the fame-adjacent, with a fantastic monologue about doing improv in college. I truly didn't know what was going to happen next from moment to moment as I feared for the women and tried to will Buddy to step up and step in. With engaging characters, a single set, and audience participation (but not in an uncomfortable way), this play is great.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Epitaph, a very short play

Writing a powerful one-minute play is a very rare and particular skill set, and hoooo boy does Ruben Carbajal possess it.

Well, this short play is great. I don't want to give anything away, but I thought I knew what was happening, and then I realized I was wrong, and then I realized what was actually happening, and then I was like Wooow what an emotional rollercoaster for only 7 pages. I'd love to watch this one in a theater, where I can hear people react to it in real time.
