  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Wishes (a five minute play)

This is an absolutely brilliant example of 'doing things different'. Very rarely do we get the chance to do a relationship over but that is precisely what is portrayed here in a quirky, funny and lovely way. I loved reading this piece am not at all surprised by its vast production history!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Whatever I Want (a ten minute play)

The first two pages of this play where Elizabeth is dictating the terms of her funeral I couldn't help but think "you tell her!" and think that death is always something sober as opposed to celebrated. That initial smile at that first thought continued to linger through the sweet and touching conversation between the two sisters. Despite the undertone of the subject of death I could still appreciate the lovely tender moment between the characters. It takes a wonderful new spin on what is a dark subject.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Carefully Taught

The concept of relationships is something that plays have explored forever but this piece adds a whole new dimension to that. It takes several different types of relationships, adds various catalyst, shakes and then you see the piece explode in the best way. That coupled with the amazing characters created in this scene makes this piece stand head and shoulders above other plays that explore relationships!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: THE POWER OF BIRDS (full length)

Wow! That's all I could initially think of but I'd like to further add that reading this piece left me almost breathless. You can't help but lean in even when just reading words on a page. That level of wanting to be involved would make this piece truly addictive to watch on stage, holding its audience to the very last word!

I sometimes think dark theatre gets a very bad rep. An audience doesn't always want to roll on the floor with laughter, sometimes they need to think and sometimes they need to feel. That is precisely what this play gives you, a roller coaster of feeling! Any audience seeing this piece I feel would be privileged to witness this deeply emotional and very socially relevant piece.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Garden Party

This is a brilliant balance between what would look very pretty as a piece of theatre but sounds dark and tense. It seems a simple concept, people in a garden but the more you read the more you are drawn in and the more questions pile up! By the end I was on the edge of my seat and the ending did not disappoint. A brilliantly done piece and will make you consider flowers in a whole new light!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Lost Portraits

I've always found the idea of exploring art (something still) through theatre (something moving) a somewhat baffling concept but with this piece not only has the writer managed to explore and create an intriguing piece but I also think it gives you a new appreciation for the world of art and reminds us why theatrics and art often do walk hand in hand.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Sugar Ridge Rag

For me, a good play is one you can see, even when reading it. From the first few pages I could see the Granger's and the events in their lives unfold. I found all four characters very relatable from the back and forth between brothers to the disagreements between the older and younger generation. The bond I felt to the characters continued through the piece as you see more of their life events unfold. You go through a spectrum of emotions and by the end you know you've experienced a wonderful, sad, funny, complex and brilliantly entertaining play!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: THE JOYS OF CHRISTMAS (Monologue)

We all have our own stories that we either tell or don't tell but its a privilege to be a part of the story that Gladys is telling. It would be easy to just dismiss the character as a 'dotty old woman' with imaginary friends but as I read the piece (more than once) I found myself wanting to know more about Gladys's story and her friends. Its always the pieces that leave you wanting more that are best in my opinion and this piece certainly does that!

The writer has created a perfect picture of how 'real life' can and does intrude on the innocence of children. While in this piece it has not corrupted their thinking you can almost sense that if there was another piece set when these kids were ten years older things would be very different! I love the fact that this piece not only made me smile at the way there was complete innocence between the children but also made me think about when that innocence actually becomes corrupted. A very poignant and well written piece!
