  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: One Minute More

Some would describe having a child as the most natural thing in the world but Jackie has captured the tension and heart ache of what happens when it doesn't happen naturally. The one minute represented in this piece passes very quickly and very slowly at the same time. The back and forth between the two characters carries the action along but at the same time you, as an audience member want to know the result before you are presented with a great ending! Its a wonderfully beautiful and yet powerful piece.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: A New Newer Normal

The thing that instantly struck me from the very beginning of this piece was the wonderful imagery John creates as his characters remember times gone by. That, coupled with the lovely familial back and forth between these great characters and I couldn't help but smile as I travelled with this delightful collection of characters through their discussions, secrets and complexities of family life. John exhibits a wonderful insight into the nature of people and their relationships, making this a wonderfully natural and yet fascinating play!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: These aren't meant to be worn (5 minute play)

Relationships are always complicated and the one between an artist and a critic can be just as complex. Lack of understanding and complexity of history between the two characters is evident here in this piece. As others have commented, the dialogue is beautifully poetic and you can picture the back and forth between the two as they debate. Elisabeth showcases her wonderfully diverse writing style in the language style, that coupled with the insight into the situation the audience witness makes this a great piece of theatre, and for me could be appreciated as a piece of verbal poetry.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The Sentence - 10 Minute Play

The moment I saw the tagline and knowing what I know about Ryan's skill as a writer, I knew I had to read this play! Its another brilliant example of how Ryan lulls you into a false sense of security of thinking you know how things are going to turn out and then expertly twists it. Three very different people find themselves witnessing an execution for three different reasons and yet by the end they have all had an impact on the others lives! They are characters who could be wonderful to perform, so emotionally complicated and brilliantly created!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS

Never has the world of being a writer been represented in such a fascinating and interesting way. Like a good few of Charles's plays, you start the play with a certain expectation and he guys you down a twisting road further into the depths of this intriguing encounter before giving a final spin with the ending. I've never thought about what writers sound like when talking to each other but this play is a great example of how interesting the conversations can be. A great play for performance where your aim is to draw in and intrigue your audience!

Power, that for me was the central element of this very cleverly written piece that analyses what it is to be a woman. The three very different and wonderfully created characters all present the piece as the audience are privileged enough to witness it. For me its a piece that will and should inspire lots of debate amongst its audience. Performances of this piece would play a crucial part in what has become our expectations of gender. Its a play that speaks volumes on society, gender and, for me, is perfectly captured in the ending poem.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: The New Client (Ten Minute)

The writer does a great job of drawing you in the first page to desperation of wanting to know who the client is. From there you are drawn into a fascinating debate between personal and professional beliefs. The characters both stand perfectly behind their beliefs on the situation to the point where you are not sure who you want to decide with. Then to give it the ending he does, the audiences will be debating this play when they are at home...the following day, Its a great piece that inspires, intrigues and will encourage discussion.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Hats

Coming into this play having no idea bout the Album it was inspired gave a fresh perspective on this wonderful play. Its a wonderful play that showcases just how complicated relationships can be. The way the interactions overlap and the play carries you through a vast spectrum of emotions is very clever. Its a play that will showcase the strength of actors due to the brilliant way the characters and indeed their story has been constructed.

I ended this play with tears of anger in my eyes but in a good way (if that even makes sense!) Emma has created an incredibly powerful piece on many levels. While speaker is described as looking like girl, to me it felt like through the piece the girl was being talked 'about' rather than being able to tell her own story (this may not have been intentional) and that added to the power and darkness of the imagery described and witnessed as part of this story. Its a tremendously powerful piece that speaks volumes to our world, tragically!

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Playground Politics

The complex life of young people is not so apparent as it is in this great little piece. You open the piece thinking its about the banding together of girls against a common enemy but then, as with so many of her pieces, Jacquelyn expertly twists it and leaves you surprised (and in my case with a smile on my face). Its a wonderful sketch piece that could be great for young people!
