  • Christopher Plumridge: It Couldn’t Happen Here - A Script In A Day

The title of this play alone sums up our misguided sense of security, it could happen anywhere. We're all guilty of seeing pandemics in third world countries and think it couldn't happen here, now with events in Ukraine it suddenly becomes all too real. I admire how swiftly the playwright delves deep into this story, as quick as the takeover of our country itself. Excellent albeit difficult reading.

  • Christopher Plumridge: Five, Six, Seven, Eight

I love this little Zoom play, it would be so much fun to act out online! Maryanne is so enthusiastic while Clyde is far less so as they embark on their latest 'couples' venture. Roxy proves a fun character in the middle, I would love to see her in full costume casually strumming her ukulele....which I can assure you is not a euphemism!

  • Christopher Plumridge: Closing Doors

In the UK our schools have fire drills, in Japan they have earthquake drills, it's sad to believe that there are such things as active shooter drills in any school. This desperate short play by Minigan looks at the conflict which must arise in such situations, where surely there are occasions where there is no right or wrong thing to do. Do you follow the rules or stand my your morals, a tough conflict well tackled. Excellent.

  • Christopher Plumridge: Monsters Beyond the Midnight Zone

Dark, cold, claustrophobic, tense and downright terrifying, MONSTERS BEYOND THE MIDNIGHT ZONE will drag you down. I listened to this excellent two hander, brilliantly produced by Gather by the Ghost Light. There is a suggestion that this be staged in complete darkness in order to immerse the audience into these scientists predicament, what an amazing idea!

  • Christopher Plumridge: The Board

I have just listened to a wonderful recording of this great play on the Gather by the Ghost Light podcast. THE BOARD is a meeting of old minds and young, neither ate right or wrong, but these old veteran's make their young compatriot see many things in a whole new light. Eric cleverly uses a chess board to prove his point and bring this to life to excellent effect. Great!

  • Christopher Plumridge: ACCIDENTALLY UNLIKE A MONSTER

Take arguably the most famous opening line from one of the most famous songs, throw in a depressed rock star along with a groupie/werewolf and you have another excellent CSJ play!
Let's hope he recieves the help he needs and doesn't become a hairy headed gent who runs amok in Kent.....

  • Christopher Plumridge: Untraditionally Traditional

This play is such a fast paced, fun, festive, family short and I loved it! What a lovely family and I'm sure Mum is missing them madly although she might be enjoying a little break from the madness! Great fun and credit to Rob for doing his research!

  • Christopher Plumridge: Losing Hope

Some desperate issues just pass on from one generation to the next, LOSING HOPE is a sad example of this bitter cycle. Emily tackles this subject sensitivity yet without losing the true and gritty situation mother and daughter find themselves in. Viewers will be desperate to step in to rescue Hope. Very well written.

  • Christopher Plumridge: A Toast (from the THE WRINKLE RANCH AND OTHER PLAYS ABOUT GROWING OLD collection)

So many strong emotions in a short two hander as we witness this private chat at a wedding reception. No wonder, given the scenario of a parent moving on quicker than others are ready for. Debra tackles this very sensitively in this moving short, even with a clanger dropped at the end! Very well done.

  • Christopher Plumridge: The Smell of Vicks

THE SMELL OF VICKS is such a sweet and touching monologue. I've always found Vicks comforting, just like Paul's wife's mother used to give her and smell is such a powerful sense. I feel for Paul and I'm glad this vapour rub brings him comfort.
